Blue Ice Bog Rosemary

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Dear friends gave me 4 of these for my birthday. I hope to plant these in my front (north side) yard and eventually eliminate the mossy lawn. Any of you have this w/ advice to share? Will it take more then some weekly watering in the summer?

On the thread about plants you'll never have again, this one was included. We've all tried to grow it, but with varying levels of success.

katie, that is not what I wanted to hear.

I think Lynn just bought some, so maybe she'll pipe in with how they're doing for her.

And maybe others will have some opinions about what they think they should have done differently.

I bought one of these again just because I saw it and it was beautiful. I sat it out in a bed to plant later. Next day one third of the plant was broken off. The next day another third was gone. Now it is under wire waiting for the rain to stop. I think I will put it in a pot in the courtyard just in case it was the deer who ripped it up.

This is a native plant in Washington, so should do well. I have an actual bog/marsh/wetland area to plant and thought I'd try a couple to see how they do. I will perhaps look for a more common form to begin with rather than a fancier cultivar. Caution: the plant contains andromedrotoxin which if ingested can cause lowered blood pressure, breathing problems, dizziness, cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea. Not a good combo.

Mine continues to do well, but it does have this gangly growth habit and I'm afraid to cut it back because it seems so 'delicate' in constitution. I have it planted in a bed that has rich soil and gets plenty of water, but it is planted in a protected area there. The top of the plant gets sun, but the rest is sort of shaded by the trunk of a laurel we cut down, and also by the deck by the pond. It's been there a couple of years now, so I guess it's making it.

Mine are doing great. I will post a picture tomorrow.

Lynn, I have been waiting for you to tell us where your plants are located (shade, sun)and other details including age. Good thing a bathroom and bed are close to this computer :).

omg, i AM SO SORRY! I have had a houseful of company since Thursday, 5 grandkids, 2 are still here (spring break). They take turns hijacking my computer, so I have had very brief moments here to myself. I will search for my camera today and post these.
Good thing your potty and bed are close!

I appreciate this as my dear husband does too. He has been bringing food and beverages upstairs to me.

Here they are in the flower bed. Top of the picture is East, Bottom is West. The propane tank is behind the lattice. I have lilies, 2 rose bushes, and the new Armandi Snowdrift Clematis next to the lattice. Then some Daylilies, Blue Fescue Grass, 2 Bog Rosemaries, 3 Black Lace Sambucus, Vibernum, Agastache and some weeds. My Chocolate Mimosa (in back) died last summer, and I haven't dug it up yet, hoping for a miracle.

So, the bed is mostly full sun, and I water it frequently.

Thank you. Holler if there is a Choc. Mimosa miracle! I will plant my Bog Rosemary's and hope for the best. Now go get some rest, well deserved after caring for visiting family.
