CLOSED: Lesser Scaup and Northern Shoveler, I think?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Near my home in Central Iowa, there are some presently flooded corn fields. I drove past one the other day and saw a large group of ducks on it. I took some pictures from quite a distance and zoomed in when I got them home. Not the best shots, but I think what I was seeing was a group of lesser scaup and a Northern shoveler appears to be with the group. Can anyone confirm my tentative ID? Both species are apparently seen during migration here, so the season is right.

The potential shoveler is in the left side, slightly left of centre and above the centre line.

looks like you have Ringed-neck Ducks in there too. See the female on the left side of picScaups have silver back. Ringed-neck males have the black back

Super! Thanks all!

Very excited about the ring-necked ducks since they are not in either of my books as a usual Iowa find, even migratory ones. Yay! A new checkmark on my list!

CMoxon Just recently drove through Squaw Creek Nat'l Wildlife Refuge(N.W. Mo.) with my family. It was so much fun to see the waterfowl and all the excess moisture has lots of waterfowl in the fields this year. This warmer weather now has lots of birds moving through to the north too. Sure like your pictures you were able to take.

cuckoo - just keep sending them up my way! I love the variety in my feathered friends at this time of year! The Eastern Phoebe has decided to nest by my front door again. I was so pleased to see her return.
