Wow, you come up with the dangdest questions, East.

What do you plan on using charcoal and wood gas for?

LOL East, the answer to your question is Yes and No hahaaa .. yes you can make charcoal and woodgas at the same time with the right kinda set up ... use the heat from the woodgas generator to "cook" your charcoal. tho not a very used way of doing it but it can be done .... the by product of woodgas other than the gas its self is bio-char which is charcoal but very small peices... too small to use in a grill or what ever .. i run a woodgas generator here from time to time or did and im buildin a much larger one very soon to run my charger an my stove n oven off of.

Actually, you can make bio-char in pieces large enough for a grill. I do it all the time. I don't have a retort, just a smaller barrel inside a 55 gal barrel. Mostly I break up the biochar for my garden but this summer I'll be grilling more, and use some of it there.

i guess you could devise a way of "pressing" it into burquets (SP?) hahaa an dont laugh at my spelling .. maybe make "mud" out of it an pour it into a mold an let it dry .. or dry it from the heat of the woodgas generator .. an make the chunks as large as u want, hmmmm good idea.. time for some experimenting .. hehee

Why would anyone want to take chunks of biochar and press them to make briquettes? They burn just fine in a grill as chunks. I won't use anything else to grill steaks or burgers...

the biochar left from my wood gas generator is almost a compleat powder when its removed, way too small to use as charcoal in a grill, an i burn chunks in mine almost the size of tennis ball ... 2 to 3 in. square some larger some smaller but there's nothing but dust left after the process.
