I love my chickens!

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

They're so much fun to watch, so easy to have around (esp since dh does most of the few 'chores' associated with them), and I love love love the eggs! I wish I had gotten chickens a lot sooner.

I'm so glad to hear how much you enjoy them. Yes I also wondered why I waited so long. Keep having fun kido...Hay.

Me to Gwendalou! I love to watch them and do things out in the coop.I wish I had more coops and runs(don`t tell dh he says this is enough) I take total care of them but he has to do the carpentrey work as I don`t know how but believe me if I know I think there would be more coops and chickens.

Richmond, TX

Yesterday we moved a couple of coops slightly to make room for one more that I am about to build. Thanks to abundant chicken help it took a couple of hours. Hmmm, I actually have room for two more coops... Can one ever have too many chickens?

I love my chickens too!!!

When I was sick the other day, in bed, Alice came looking for me. Our dog was lying on the bed with me, so it was really brave of her to fly up on the bed. My dog is very territorial. She flew up on the end of the bed, and walked up my stomach and my chest, grabbed my wrist with her foot, stared at my face, and talked to me. Once she decided I wasn't dead, she walked back to the end of the bed. Then she wasn't quite sure, so she repeated the whole thing again.

Today, my friend who fixes my computer, came over and I took a picture of him, with my girls on his lap. He had string cheese, so all bets were off. I was able to catch a picture of Alice flying in his face, with her wings spread out, and her wing feathers spread out. She looked like a golden eagle attacking his face, except that he was laughing, and he was holding string cheese, lol. The last time I loved an animal as much as my girls, was my Great Dane.

Porkpal.. no. LOL Especially if there is room for another coop or two!

That is a great story Elleisn! Sounds great. :)

Eleisn, Okay, I have not let mine in the house (yet), so you're one up on me! I guess yours wear some sort of chicken diapers? My sister had a baby chick when she was little that she used to let sleep with her. Guess she didn't care about the poop in her bed! LOL

I just keep giving them very specific instructions, on how if they are on my bed, they have to poop on my dh's side of the bed. Just kidding, but barely. But we only let them in when it's too cold, or the snow is too deep. They really are outside animals, and love being outside. When it was 17 below this winter, and we had to bring them in, they got bored, got in trouble, and started eating our walls. Nothing like being on the phone, and you have to yell " stop eating the wall!!! We've had two big snow storms in the last week. As far as the poop, we get deals on baby wipes from Walgreens, lol. But outside is much better. Still, I was really touched that she checked in on me.

I love my chickens too. I have a couple of cochins i hatched last year that will come right to me in the pen for a lil bit of loving. They will let me scrach their heads and even under their wings. We have 6 pens right now but will be adding probly 12 more this year for the diffrent breeds we are adding.I get such a kick at feeing time when you are surrounded and if you take a step to the right or left the whole flock moves with you.Im so thankful my dh loves them as much as i do and doesnt complain too much bout getting more.

Denver, CO

When my I told my dh and my ds that I was going to get chickens, they both said "NO, NO, NO. maybe get a duck". Well now they love the girls as much as I do. My dh is really afraid of chicken thieves. He's like a mother hen. We have wild foxes on our block, that kill cats, and I'm afraid of the foxes, but I've never heard of a chicken thief in South Denver. But I guess everyone has their issues.
