Question about ventilation for birdhouse

Hammond, LA(Zone 8b)

I bought this birdhouse this past weekend. I read somewhere (or though I did) about birdhouses needing ventilation. Do I need to drill holes or anything? If so, where?

Thanks, Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, Yes bird houses do need ventilation according to all that I have read. Here is a link that might give you an idea of where to drill your vent holes. http://www.realbirdhomes.com/Birdhouse%20Lesson%204.htm . Good luck to you!

That's a great link Rose. We had to move all of our houses in and under our roof overhang to prevent overheating our birds in our hot sun.

Forgot to mention I think that new house is adorable!! Hope you have a great time watching the new family use it.

Jennifer...I also forgot to mention what a cute birdhouse you have!

Duc...I like that website too...lots of good info! I have the Blues nest box under the overhang of the shop canopy and it is usually shaded by noon or one o'clock. The first year it was in full sun and I used a patio umbrella to keep the sun off of it on really hot days!
