Here are the new girls.....
Nefertiti (because of the line around the eyes....)
all are Ameraucunas (spelling anyone?), about 2-3 days old....
Newest members of the family.....
Awwww, What cuties! How many did you get?
oop's that crossed, I see you have 4.
Hi Annie,
Only 4.... There were so many cute ones though. I wish we had room for more. As it is, we are still waiting on the permit although we have the ok from neighbors...
Blondie likes to sit in your hand, the others are a little more skittish. Terrific markings on Nefertiti, though....
It's amazing how fast they learn where the food comes from, mine will sit in my hand too, I just LOVE them!!
Congratulations on your new darling boo boo babiez! Blondie is just toooo cute with those big cheeks! They are very sweet.
Congrats to you and your new ones
To you experienced at chicken "growing" - how long will they be able to stay in this pen? It's only been a few days, but looking at pictures here, they do seem to grow pretty fast!
How big is the pen?
Do you know that Clyde needs a girl name?
Clyde does need a name change. However, the friend is stubborn. I think the girls will be changing it to a girly name soon. However, "owl" and "clyde" are practically twins and it's hard to tell them apart. They are really growing fast!
Clydette?
Awwwww they are adorible and look pretty content in moms hands.
Personally, I am perverse and like the name "Clyde". Lizzie (the chick's "Mom") is getting so serious with this naming, looking up esoteric names in Welsh and Gaelic.... I'm truly frightened about what her children will be named in the future. Although, she may get over it by then and name her kids "basic" names. Owl's real name is something in Cherokee that I cant pronounce and neither can the kids who named her.
Clydeen?
Unfortunatley we lost Owl (who's official name was Ammilahi) today. She had a congential defect that made beak grow like a pair of scissors. The vet found no way to correct the deformation of her beak. She hadn't been able to eat much and was very nearly starved, so we chose to let her go instead of suffer. Lizzie is heartbroken. She was handfeeding this chick and had really bonded with her.
Bad week, really bad week....
So Sorry.
That's always a hard decision. I've had to make it myself and I know what it's like. It is heartbreaking when one has put extra care and attention into helping a little one along.
So sorry to hear about your sweet Ammilahi. It's hard to do the right thing.
Thank you all so much. It was becoming obvious that Ammi was falling behind in growth compared to the others. We had to search for an avian vet who would look at a chicken and then drive an hour to get there. I don't know if my daughter knows how much we spent to help a $5 chick..... I wish we could have saved her though
The things we do for our children and animals... You are a good mother...
LOL - somewhere there is a halo in my size, right?
