I took my wife on a snipe hunt today and we actually found some. Common Snipe migration is on and we found some out in the Canadian River flats west of Norman. I was able to get quite close to a couple. Lots of migrating Killdeer and American Pipits out there, too.

Good shot red! I'll check the link out soon.
Great photos Red!! What was that last yellow bird, maybe a Meadowlark? Anyway, I loved all your pictures.
Yes, the yellow bird is an Eastern Meadowlark, but with an unusually white head.
Nice shots of the Snipe Red. Didn't you go out today just to photograph them? If so...that is doubly cool. Love your Meadowlark too and the head does have a lot of white...well done!
I LOL'd when DH said "He invited his wife to go on a snipe hunt and she agreed?" ♥ the pics.
Hi Red, The rest of the shots are really nice!
It is gratifying when you go out hunting for a relatively rare bird for your area and find them. There should be a lot of peeps in that area when the weather warms. Lots of migrating birds follow the Canadian River.
lovely snipe shot, red. Almost looks like a painting.
Good on you, Red. You did well. What a beautiful bird. So is the Meadowlark.
Ah, yes, snipe-hunting used to be a popular sport in younger days. My daughter was really surprised to see that there actually existed a bird called a snipe!
Great pictures. I love the sound the snipe's wings make.
Nice photo Red! Like all your shots. I THINK I may have seen a pipit today...not sure and I didn't have the camera.
red, great shot,I was one of those that thought snipe hunting was joke, until I saw it in the birding guide !!!! I must admit that was a few yrs ago LOL .We have friends in Mena ,Jim and Annie Whitiaker.
Great shots, red. That's one that has eluded me thus far. I, too, like the Meadowlark photo.
I just found out two years ago that there really is a Snipe!!
Nice series of shots on the Wilson's Snipe, and the Meadowlark look's very nice also!
Glad to know that there is a name for the snipe (Wilson's). Who was Wilson & I might add a wonderful picture.
Iris,Just search 'Alexander Wilson'. He was America's first famous ornithologist, prior to Audubon. Several species are named after him and many regard him as the 'father of ornithology' in America. Last spring I found some Wilson's Phalaropes not far from where I took the snipe pics. There is a warbler genus named 'Wilsonia'.
Wonderful pictures Red. First time I ever saw a Snipe.
Went back out in the flat yesterday and the snipe were gone. We did see a Marbled Godwit in a small playa which was a lifer for my wife and me. Saw Yellow Legs, BW Teal, lots of Killdeer. We have another low pressure area moving through which will force more migrating birds to the ground as the counter-clockwise rotation produces strong north winds and rain.
