I have read that Bluebirds will not eat the dehydrated worms------but, I had a sack in my frig. and decided to give it a try. I have purchased one of those expensive cage feeders that have bars which will keep out large birds. Repeatedly, as I have put them out----they have disappeared. And, I have seen Bluebirds flying in the area. Could it be that they are that desperate-----or could some other creature get to them? As much as I have watched the cage, I have not seen any thing approach it. I would appreciate any suggestions----

Bluebird?
I have Downy Woodpeckers, White-crowned Sparrows and Carolina Wrens eat in the caged feeders as well as the Bluebirds. I think the Titmice also like worms but ours don't use the cage. I fed dehydrated worms one year and the only takers I had were the Carolina Wrens.
Hope you get to see who is doing the eating and let us know.
Thanks for input. I will try to watch more carefully--

Hi shirleyd - I'd be curious too, to hear who is sneaking in and out w/the goods! I have had half a dozen male bluebirds off and on in my crabapples and bradford pears (along with house finches) eating the tiny apples/berries.
I ordered some mealworm-flavored suet pellets from Duncraft and the Bluebirds will eat them, although not with the same gusto they go after live mealworms. I've been throwing a hand full of the pellets in a hanging open feeder and the Cardinals seem to like them as well. They come in different flavors.
Thanks Reddirtretiree----the next time I get a catalog I will order some
