I recently adopted two mini Australian Shepherds (one may be a mix). Ellie is a 2 1/2 blue merle girl and Fletcher is about a year and a half yr old tricolor boy (he's the one that may be a mix). I got Ellie three weeks ago, and then last week the same rescue group I got her from posted Fletcher on Petfinder...I had always thought about getting a second dog eventually so Ellie would have someone to play with while I'm at work, and it seemed too perfect that they had another mini Aussie about her age, so I picked him up on Thurs.
I think they're going to love each other eventually--they got off to a good start playing with each other, but last night and this morning they've been playing a bit rougher--a lot more curling lips & growls so I think they're trying to figure out who's going to be dominant and neither one wants to give in quite yet. They haven't shown any signs of hurting each other so I'm just waiting to see how things play out. I'd tried to set Ellie up for being dominant since she was here first--I give her food first, and when we go for walks she gets to go out the door next after me and Fletcher goes out last, but I think he still has some ideas that he ought to be number 1. We'll see what happens!
Here's a picture of them when they were playing nice together
