We moved into a house with a front yard that's heavily overun with ivy a couple years ago. My husband loves the look of the ivy, but I know that it's bad, so we've been going back and forth about ripping it out.Anyway, FINALLY, we're on the verge of ripping most of it out and some of the trees look quite damaged, probably from years of being strained by the ivy and just years of never getting any pruning.
We also have a couple of large once-blooming bushes on our property that look rather dead but might be brought back with a really hard prune. I'm curious to find someone who I can find to consult on the state of the union, as it were. If you've got any leads, that would be great. I love gardening but I'm on a huge deadline so I don't have loads of time to devote to it right now but I think this would be a good time to clear a bunch of hte ivy and prune back the trees and bushes before spring officially hits.
Seeking a good arborist/gardener
You might contact Heidi, cattledogs here on DG. She's very friendly and has helped lots of us with garden issues. She runs a nursery in Kingston and may be able to help you herself or recommend someone on that side of the Sound. Her nursery is Dragonfly Farms Nursery.

Classic Nursery, on Avondale Road in Woodinville, is well-known for their design and could perhaps recommend someone to you. I don't know how spendy they are for their consultations, but they are nice, knowledgeable people. And in this economy, you might be able to get some kind of a deal . . .
