My wife and I spotted an unusual hawk for this area while taking a walk in nearby Sutton Wilderness-- a Harris's Hawk. An absolutely stunning bird. We got to watch it perched for several minutes though our binocs. I could see it's huge talons and the detail of it's feathering. An unusual encounter. I posted on the Bird ID forum for confirmation. Also received confirmation from some local experts on the OU listserv.

Also saw a Red-shafted Flicker which is unusual around here as well, but no pic. In the shadows. I saw a female, but when she flew, my wife said another bird flew as well. So could be a pair. This makes 211 species observed in this little urban preserve named after Professor Emeritus George Miksch Sutton, OU professor of ornithology. He produced a wealth of art and a legacy of inspiring an appreciation and knowledge of birds to thousands of students.
