Oh Dear, a mouse

Denver, CO

Just now New Cat heard, smelled, stalked , and caught a mouse. Immediately Alice took it away from her, which is a good thing because New Cat just plays with them for a couple hours, then lets them go, sometimes in my bedroom, alas. The chickens will kill a mouse right away. Well Alice got the mouse, then Claire took it away from her, then my son took it away from Claire. He grabbed the mouse, handed me Claire, saying "Here's your chicken", and took the mouse away. I think he's somewhere outside giving CPR to a mouse right now. I was going through my sock drawer the other day, and found mouse turds in it. In my sock drawer!!!!! As compassionate as I am for all life, mouse turds in my sock drawer?

Welcome to my world.. I just don't have any mousers besides me. I've been on a cleaning mission for weeks, sterilizing everything.. (including socks) Yes, it gets out of hand very quick.. My DS didn't want to kill them.. (I was gone for a few months) and wow.. they moved in!
I don't envy you..

My cats do a good job keeping them out of the house...good thing too cuz when it comes to mice, I'm also a sissy girl :-)

Ferndale, WA

OH Batflower, who would have ever guessed...LOL and I had this image somehow that farmgirls were really tough. Shattered my image...

You know ZZ's I really love it when you talk tough to me. Could you possibly be related our Canadian Cousin, (Batflower)...LOL.

Richmond, TX

I just sweep them out with the broom along with the spiders etc. Live and let live.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL @ Haystack.. I do that a lot don't I?

I swore I'd never use mouse traps again long ago when I caught a mouse, and when I went to check the trap, it's mate was sitting next to it staring at me. That made me cry like a baby.

But now, since they just about destroyed my clothes, and made such a mess here.. No more MsNice I have to put my foot down..

no pun intended..

Clarkson, KY

Ugh. They invaded here once we had critter feed. The cats kill many but not enough. And they go EVERYWHERE!! The worst is when they nest in the stove and then you bake flan....phew!! Horrid!!

Denver, CO

Oh no

Mouse flavored flan, that must be an acquired taste.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

LOL.. I am armed with Super Mouser Kitty and one mouse trap. But when the trap caught one, it was horrid, as if fell down from a cabinet.. EWWWWWWWWWWWW
Mr Haystack,
you have heard that the elephant was afraid of the mouse, this is one cowgirl that can not stand mice...LOL or spiders for that matter

Clarkson, KY

Well...the house smelled of burning mouse and vanilla custard. More than just a heady brew...

Has any one here read about the buckeye chicken? they are supposed to be better mousers than a cat.I ordered some they will be comming in april or may. They are also a rare breed so we wanted them.

Lodi, United States

There used to be several people on the forum who bred Buckeyes...I had one, but a predator got her. She was a real sweetheart.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I had Shamo that ate mice!

Yes, Grownut, I just cleaned the oven, broiler, under the burners, under the stove.. took almost all day! Now it smells like oven cleaner.. LOL

Gridley, IL

I cant wait to get mine i think i ordered 4 hens and 2 roos that should give me a good start.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Catsy, I'm sorry.. she was so sweet, but I can't see her getting a mouse, could you? She was kinda slow and laid back like Dolly.. LOL

I'd get more Shamo if I ever get the chance.. they look like dinosaurs but awesome birds!

Ferndale, WA

Shewolfie, what Catscan did not tell you was that the predator the got her buckeye was a mouse!!!ROFLMBO...Hay

When my son was a little boy, he bought a boa. We named her Rosey. She had to be fed live mice. My son didn't seem to mind that so much, but my mother did. She loved the snake, but was terrified of the mice. So she would lock herself in her bedroom, until the snake ate the mouse. Then she would come back out and pet the snake. Oh such is life.

Dartmouth, NS(Zone 6a)

My Son has a boa Elleisn, and the worst part is, we have to buy mice to feed him because the wild ones carry parasites that could harm the snake.

A mouse nest cooking in the oven would smell horrible!! The worst we ever had was a nest in our air conditioner in the car... when we turned it on little bits of mouse came spraying out at us, and we NEVER got the smell out, sold the car not to have the problem anymore

Denver, CO

Oh no, that sounds so horrible. Dead mouse smell in your car, that you can't get rid of. It sounds like a Seinfeld episode.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I bought a lil Honda Civic that had been stored... ewww One day after I had it about 2 weeks, I'm in there and notice a fly... then another and another.. so I roll down the window.. then there were more.. I had to pull over.. then I see they are coming from under the dash... I was freaking by then.. the car was FULL of flies, all over me, the seats, the roof, everywhere! I'm standing on the side of the road slapping myself.. looking like I've completely lost it..
Yeah.. it was ugly.. something died and I couldn't tell what it was..

I am so glad I didn't read the last of this thread while I was eating lunch.....how appetizing...lol!

Clarkson, KY

Ugh!!!

Well..they aren't under our stove. They get IN! The back portion where the controls are up above the counter? Nice and open. Perfect place for mice to get in. Can't trap or poison there either. :{{

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Steel wool around/in the hole will keep them out. I am getting a big bag of it,.

Denver, CO

That's what I need to do. Wrap myself in steel wool, and sit in the middle of the room with my chickens and my cat. That should do it. Actually I've caught mice with my hand before. Taken them down the street and let them off at my neighbors house. I've only killed one mouse before. My dogs had gotten to it and broken it's back, and it was dragging itself across the room. I picked up my cast iron frying pan, closed my eyes, and put it out of it's misery. Hard thing to do. My chickens are really good mousers. And thankfully they kill them right away, unlike my cat. My cat is good at catching them, the chickens are better at killing them. I hope that won't give me mouse flavored eggs. That flan didn't sound very appetizing.

Clarkson, KY

That's exactly what I've been meaning to do...30 inches of steel wool across the top of the stove...irritating though:(
