So excited I'm still shaking!

Hamilton, MT

Just checked fresh pics from this afternoon and I GOT him!!! (grin) This adult bald eagle was west of Missoula, MT about 1/4 mile ahead of us upside Hwy 93 next to, I believe, the Clark Fork River near Alberton. I *love* me some fast shutter speeds!!! We were hauling it at about 80 with great weather & no company on the road when I got this pic! I can hardly believe I got the shot even at 1/640.

I just think it's amazing you had such a shot at something I could never see here my entire life. Thanks for the humbling picture, I also saved it for pawpaw who is a local bird watcher. Thanks~

That's the way I felt when I got my first Bald Eagle pic. Since then I have taken a few more, but the first is special. Congrats!

Gardenpom, it's actually not my first photo of a baldie; I got one just before Christmas as it cruised past the migrating geese, and several young'uns in the last month or so...just never knew I *could* get the camera up fast enough for this!

In more recent news, it turns out that my hopes from yesterday weren't totally unfounded: I did get a pic of a chickadee at a range of half a city block. I'm sure eventually I'll move up to a camera with better detail at that range someday when I can afford it, but that's still a heck of a ways to be getting a focus on such a tiny fella! The attached image is cropped from a 2000 x 1500 reduction of a 3264 x 2448 original.
