Silkie - Lie to me!

(Zone 5b)

I so hope Elizabeth is a girl. What do you think? She's quite cheeky and bossy with everyone. When I put the new chicks in the box yesterday she immediately ran up to them flapping her wings and up on her tip toes. She was the first to eat from my hand and now if I'm not holding food she pecks anyway and jumps onto my hand. She makes a huge deal out of scratching food, it flies every where! I have some rocks in the box to hold down the corners of the paper towels and she likes to stand on them. She cheeps when I talk to her too. She was shipped last Wednesday so I assume she was born early Tuesday? So 6, maybe 7 days old?

I'm so attached to these chicks, just love them!!!

I cannot tell a lie.. sorry!

So I should change her name to Bob?? I might cry!

I can lie....but the behaviour does seem rooish. I have had very dominant pullet chicks that behaved that way...but generally the one out front, pecking your hand and checking everything out first, is a roo.

I think roos are generally the more interactive and lovable chicks...at least till the hormones kick in.

Well, again, I hate to be the one with bad news.. but that puffing up and challenging newcomers, etc.. I'm thinkin roo big time. Enjoy your chick.. Who knows.. it's 50/50 so just enjoy the time you have with it today... and cross that "other" bridge when you get to it.

She is pretty rooish but I wanted to think she was just an outgoing, demanding, power Chick with red lipstick and a Coach bag. Well.. Bob it is then.

I'd say roo too but we have had some do that and turn out to be hens, so there is hope....

Bob, formerly Elizabeth, is a monster roo, he rules the box! He keeps trying to sit on an enpty paper towel roll, when it moves he jumps off and pecks at it. I have a board in there for them to try to roost on but he likes to do things his way. He scratches at the food so hard it flies out of the box. I love his rooie-ness!

Here is his sister, or brother.

I love that original one you were holding. It just looks like a total Frank Sinatra, You know a kinda "I DID IT MY WAY" kinda thing. Yeah probably a jerk, but I like jerks, they always make me look good...LOL. Hay

haha, Hay, wish I had thought of naming him that, he sure lives up to it! I love to watch him rule the box, if I could keep a roo it would be him for sure.
