Here are a few pics of the gang.
Game chicks pics!
I love game birds! I wish I had the zoning to keep some. Yours are so beautiful.
Yes they are so beautiful!
Hi Cajun: I love giggilo, he is beautiful. Hay
I love them too... Your roos are incredible! Got some nice chicks there too.. Congrats! I love the look..
I wish I had trimmed Eagie. He looks unkempt for a game cock but his coloring is really nice. I'd like to sell all my game birds. It's a pain having to keep them all seperate.
Beautiful Roos. Eagie looks handsome untrimmed, his feathers and markings are beautiful!
Thanks. I hatched him from an egg. His hen just wandered up one day.
Is it due to fighting you have to keep them seperate? Don't know anything about game birds except they are very pretty...How many gamebirds do you have?
I don't know about game birds either. What do you mean by " trimming " them?
Dubbing? Cutting off the comb? I think they originally did it to keep them from getting torn when they fought.
I do know it is common practice to dub the combs for show birds, that was one thing that kept me from ever wanting to show. Also I hear is can get nasty in the show arena. If that is the case I'm never going to be interested. I just want to have fun and enjoy everyone. Forget the competition. Hay
I wouldn't even think of dubbing my Moderns. I know it's common practice, and they say to do it before they mature, but I don't like the look.. or the procedure!
I'd think a breeder/buyer with a good eye will see right passed the full comb.
I'm with you ZZ's, I just don't like it. ZZ's are you going to keep your moderns or what, I want to focus only on seramas and black/coppers but Karen keeps telling me I gotta keep the gamehens, she loves them but makes me do all the clean up. They are messier than the seramas I think. Very cute, personable, but. Oh well, what do you say to a strong willed woman except ok...LOL.
I like the trimmed look. It looks neater to me. It also eliminated the frostbite problems we have in winter. Dumpling lost a spike on his comb to frostbite this winter.
Yes, I have to keep them seperated because one would kill the other. They don't establish a pecking order. It's "take no prisoners" with them. They are beautiful birds but there is a lot involved with them. I have the 2 roos and 3 hens plus the 5 chicks.
I sold my Moderns, had to make room for the Seramas!
What are Moderns?
Oh yum! He is beautiful!
Moderns were used for fighting years ago, but I believe they are mostly just show birds nowadays. I've never heard of anyone using them for fighting in these times..
They actually get along better than other breeds.. and are incredibly friendly towards humans.
Here is a pic of the splash hen.. she was so elegant.. and such a lil sweetie!
These Moderns are so laid back, Cajun when you open the door to their pen they charge you to see who can land on you first. They are so loveable and gentile. No fight in these little ones. They are small but very long legged and long necked. Their bodies are tiny. Hay

Crud, the internet was messing up, my post did not get posted..
I GOT CRACKS IN MY EGGS THIS AM>.. I posted in my thread
I'll have to look into those Moderns. I love the look of games but keeping them apart is a pain.
Jester, did it freeze last night? Maybe your eggs froze or mayhap a hen stepped on it.
I think she means "pips"!
Didn't realize she meant eggs in a bator. LOL
Yeppers I have PIPS....Doing the PIPPI Dance..
I'd pay to see that. :)
I want a video of that, MissJ!! LOL!!!
ok sorry to ask but what do you mean by "game"chicken. I know of the MG's, (thanks to ZZ) & OEG's... but are these different from OEG?
