Two different colored hibiscus flowers on same plant?

West Palm Beach, FL

I posted a thread below showing off my new Jane Cowl hibiscus "tree": http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1079235/

The other day, I noticed something odd. Two different colored blooms on the same "tree"! One red, and the other pink. I've attached a picture of them side-by-side. I don't see any evidence of double-grafting, and the flower sprung from a branch that had a pink growing on it prior to this one blooming. I will keep watching the tree, but I thought this was very odd. Has anyone seen this?

Never seen this but sure is beautiful!! Reminds me of the confederate rose .
Do watch it and see if keeps on going. Be proud.

If it stays that way it would be call a sport with the name of the original hib in front like "El Capitolio Sport" yellow. Put a ribbon around that branch so you can keep checking if it continues to do so, if it does you can take a cutting from it to root so you can have a new hib color plant in your collection. BTW, they look gorgeouse together.

Thanks for the information, Wilfred. I will continue to monitor that branch, and see if they pop up anywhere else! It would be something to see two different colors on the same branch at the same time...

Update. Another red bud is about to bloom amongst the pinks and can be seen in contrast to the surrounding buds/blooms. I noticed the red buds occur on the same branch, but there is no sign of grafting, as the branch is growing naturally from the same "trunk" as the others. I'm hoping so see another red on another part of the plant to rule out grafting (or on the same branch as a pink, as erroneously reported in a previous post; my oversight!). I will take another picture once the bloom is open and will follow up!

Update. The above bud has bloomed and is indeed red; different from the pink/peach flowers that are on the rest of the plant. It is isolated to one branch, but the branch appears to be growing naturally from the same "trunk" as the others with no visible sign or scar of grafting. I will post updates if I see any other branches following suit. Here's a couple more pics. Enjoy!

Indeed its a sport alright and a beautiful at that, did you tagged the branch for future reference to keep track of it in the future.
OH! BTW, first in line if you ever make rooted cutting from it when big enough, both the pink and the red, their just gorgeouse, oh well if you don't know how to root them I take the cuttings anyway, LOL!

When it comes time to trim it up, I will most definitely start experimenting with rooting different cuttings from both branches and see what I come up with. If I come up with a couple plants with both colored flowers, I'll send one to you Wilfred :)

Thanks Grant, looking forward to it. have you tried to cross pollinate this one with the other ones you have, would be fun to if you get seeds from its pollen.
