It's spring! Yayyy!!!! The weeds are taking over my garden! Yikes!!! Mr. Oft has posted the daylilies that will be at his annual garage sale!! YAYYY!!!
Here is the link to his page: http://www.ofts.com/bill/yardsale.html Mr. Oft is a daylily hybridizer, and every fall he divides his plants, and pots up his extras. On the Saturday before Mother's Day, he holds a garage sale at his home in the Garden Oaks/ Houston Heights area and sells them for fantastic prices - so he can buy more daylilies!
The garage sale starts at 7:00 am sharp - which means you really need to be there by 6:45 so you can get in line. Yep, there's a line! Usually he has dozens of daylilies, so everyone finds something to buy - or several somethings. But... The first year we went he didn't have very many at all, and they were all sold in 90 seconds flat - and I am NOT exaggerating! You can ask Vossner! She got there 7 minutes late, and they were all gone! That has been an exception, though... This will be the 6th year a group (or sometimes just me) from DG have met there. It's a lot of fun, and the daylilies are gorgeous!
A couple of years ago, a pretty large group of us met there, and then went to breakfast and went nursery hopping in the Heights. Would any of you like to do that again?
6th Annual Houston Daylily Sale and Nursery Hop
oooooo wow some lovely photos of the ones he will have.
I will have to double check the calendar a lil closer to time but if I can make it I would love to go and I could possibly drive to my daughters in Humble on Friday evening to be there in time for Saturday morning.
Thanks for the information. I may have to make a trip to Houston real soon. Everybody needs more daylilies! Last Memorial Day I was dividing up my daylilies and had no idea what to do with the new babies. Then it struck me - Craigslist! I could hardly get enough divided before they were sold and I had to divide more. I earned (?) a little over $500 @ $1 each - used the money to buy mulch and potting soil so I really didn't earn anything but it sure was fun.
