Fungus, Molds and Other FUN things!

Huntington Station, NY(Zone 7a)

Howdy and Happy Monday! Does anyone know if we have a link anywhere on this forum which discusses the pests and diseases of hoyas? Is there a resource anywhere? I've noticed a few funky things happening to a few hoyas and was looking for info/pictures.

I'll definately get a picture of the one mess and post it this evening. It's an odd hard growth on the leaf that almost looks like a crusted scab...I know, gross. The other nasty is a black mold type of growth on 2 of my plants. I sprayed with a fungicide and I'm sure this is due to inadequate air circulation....so I've got the fans going now. This is what happens when you grow these plants indoors in the winter. No matter how hard you try you can't replicate the great outdoors...Oh please, spring, get here! BTW---should I separate the ones with the black fungus?

Always take off infected leaves. If the fungi is little black holes with a purpleish/orangish ring around them, take them off immediately and burn.... That is BlackShot and the spores never die...so get rid of the leaves you have.

The crusty stuff is wierd...I have it on one leaf and it does not spread. I think it is a plant's reaction to something long past....

Please post photos...

The odd hard growth sounds like a problem some of us noticed on a couple of our Hoya's last summer. Check out some of our photo's on this thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/996612/ for comparison to what you are seeing on your plant.

A few leaves from affected plants were sent off to a lab for diagnosis and if you scroll down to my post on July 8th you can read the lab report, suspected oedema.

The milky sap in the plant often coagulates and forms a crust when a critter comes along and nibbles on it. Believe me, if you saw plants collected in the wild you would never collect them....!!!!

Ok 3 pics...first the Dimorpha's "crusty scab"....Ladies and gents, put down your dinner (or lunch...or whatever you may be eating).....

And here is the other hoya (named unknown) with a red "fungal" looking mass on the underside of the leaf......

And here is the top side of the leaf. Which to me, originally looked like a sunburn (literally) of sorts, since it was a red blochyness....

the only things I see in the middle picture are some tiny red specks.... Carmine Spider Mites? The first one may be mite damage as well. The third one doesn't seem like anything but, perhaps, a reaction to a bite.....

Thanks Carol! I'm segregating them in any event and treating....we shall see what happens.....
