I don't believe that this cultivar is a Sasanqua. Note the rather large leaves and large bloom size. The only 'Swan Lake' I know of is a C. japonica.

I got my information from this site... there are numerous hits for this plant as C sasanqua on Google. But I really can't argue it they are right or not as I am certainly not a Camellia expert

Hmmm. That's funny because when I googled it I only got two sites, Backyard Gardener and Dave's. Have you seen Monrovia's 'Swan Lake'? Don't you think it looks similar? Also, I'm curious, how did you know it was called Swan Lake in the first place?

labeled as such by the botanical gardens.

If you are sure this is japonica, I can easily have it changed.

First, when was it blooming? Maybe that will clear things up. Unless, of course, we have an 'October Affair' on our hands.
Also, I figure this is no earth shattering matter. If it stays labeled as is, I won't lose sleep over it :)

took that photo no less than a week before it was uploaded, so March. However, I have been by the Huntington frequently and many of their Camellias bloom from November on through April... so I cannot say this tree was only blooming in March.

But if it bloomed in March it shouldn't matter when else it bloomed. There are quite a few japonicas that bloom lightly in fall before they bloom heavily in spring but there are almost no sasanquas that have blooms on them in March.

Then I guess we should move it to japonica

I'm not sure exactly how to do that. Do you?

I just did it... thanks for your help in getting this one sorted out

Thanks for hearing my argument and not being argumentative back :) Now, to get that botanical garden to change it's name plate...
