I always buy 1 or 2 crotons at HD every spring to enjoy the full season, then leave them out to die over winter. Then 2 years ago, I started seeing a wide variety in nurseries. I got so suckered in by their colors and shapes. By last fall, I had too much money invested to just let them all die so I took them inside. I have about 20 on the floor in my dining room. Most are now almost leafless. I guess I need to be content with just a couple throw always.

The one in this picture just captures their so vibrant colors. They really are gorgeous! I always think when I see a plant that just pops out at you that whomever hybridized it, must have gone bonkers as the seedling grew and they realized what a special plant they had.

Thanks y'all!

I had about a dozen Croton's growing in large containers for many years ... lost every single one of those beauties from the extremely harsh winter we had this year! Crotons are very common at the garden centers and big box stores here in Florida. In the southern part of the state they are a common landscape plant. I've had a few produce blooms for me but the amazing colorful foliage is what is so wonderful about Codiaeum.
