"Brilliant Red" Oriental poppies

I have never grown poppies and have the pkts. of seeds ready to plant. How long does it usually take for them to germinate by Wintersowing them? Or should I just direct sow them after last frost date? If I WS them, do I cover the seeds lightly or do not cover seeds at all?

They need cold, put them out now before last frost. Tamp them in lightly. Do not cover with soil.
