Any signs of spring yet ?

This is about all I can find (columbine) except a few green shoots of daffodils and surprise lilies.

I can't post pictures, but I have lots of snowdrops blooming and today the first purple crocus have appeared. I have also noticed that the birds are singing very early and more loudly than last week. I love to listen to them as I get ready for work in the still dark morning.

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

Oh the birds they have been singing here too , such a lovely sound.
I also saw my first robins this week. Wouldn't you know they were fighting over territory!

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I saw the Robins trying to mate... that is a sure sign... there are also between 6 and 24 Mallards on the pond next door... they are 'getting frisky' .... My peony has emerged, Bronze Fennel and tons of Agastache, along with Asters.

Could be more stuff... but that is what i saw the other day. the plants that never fully die back for the winter have perked up too.

Dont have any images though.

Things are slow here, this is my first sign of color I found these yesterday
Some crocus, not open yet and probably wont open today unless it stops raining.

Oh my goodness - I think Spring may actually be coming here too! Hard to believe, we've been buried under so much snow this winter but it just melted this week and I'm seeing quite a few bits of green here and there, the birds have started singing here also.

Spring comes early here - my flowering quince was in it's prime last month.

Such beautiful blooms , they help keep me hopeful for a beautiful spring to come, even if I can't grow camellias here.
Today rain all day and a high of 46.

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

I do have a double impatient blooming here in the house that looks a little like your camellia.

Gardengus - that really does look like a camellia! Nice color.

gardengus - when do you start your Spring cleanup? With all the wild weather we get here in March and April do you worry about cleaning out and pruning your plants this early or do you think were past the worst?

I never think we are past the worst till later in April . however I have started spring cleanup or may be I should say I am finishing up fall??^_^
I have so many gardens I care for If I don't take advantage of every good day I quickly fall behind.
Right now I am cutting the grasses, clearing the daylilies, and raking leaves off some parts. If I leave the leaves too long the rake tears the foliage then I have to hand rake(use my fingers) and that takes a long time.

Big spring display is starting up in Northern CA:

Wow, thanks for pointing us that way
Some beautiful photos there

Crown Point, IN(Zone 5a)

thanks gardengus, that's where I'm at too. Trying very hard not...to...prune...roses.....(it's 61 degrees today but snow coming Sunday)!

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I too have not pruned yet... my neighbor did, but i honestly don't think she knows much about roses, or care of.

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

do you put Epsom salt on your roses?

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

NO -- I haven't... yet. I do the banana peels.

I've read a lot of great things about ES... and really need to start using it this year.

there is a "recipe" for plants in the "Brugs" forum... i have it tagged somewhere.... but they include ES in their 'tonic'
I really need to look into that more for this season.

I currently only use THRIVE and compost tea.... but i think i need to 'step it up a notch' for my plants sake.

First official day of spring HOORAY !!!
Did every one get to play outside?
I started fires, I know not too good for the environment but old habits die hard.
Did some clean up in the veggie garden.
Wanted to plant some onions but it started to rain, still a nice day 63 deg and some sun.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

it is still light snowing here.

we had maybe 2" but it's already been melting a bit. nothing stuck on the pavement - only grassy surfaces.

Chalfont, PA(Zone 6b)

Crocus blooming. Daffodils in bud. Tulips up, but most have been eaten to the ground by deer!!!

Lots of perennials coming up. My Brunnera "Jack Frost" have flower buds on them, and so do some of my VA bluebells. Lot of my WS jugs are sprouting. It feels amazing outside right now!

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

Oh that reminds me I have some WS jugs sprouting too and I meant to record which ones
It is raining so I guess I will have to wait ...OR... maybe an umbrella I really want to know ???

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Crocus blooming and daffs up and some just started blooming yesterday. Daylilies are all greening up and starting to grow new fans. Even the Seedum are putting out new growth. The Hummingbird mint has new leaves emerging.

I finished my rose prunning today, which is early for me but the weather has been so warm this March. The winter honeysuckle is blooming and all the vining honeysuckles are putting out new spring leaves.

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

What is winter honeysuckle ? I don't have anything that blooms this early.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Winter Honeysuckle is a messey shrub that doesn't have too much structure. There were years were it bloomed in February but this year its blooming now and started early march. It has small cream white flowers are are supposed to be very fragrant. I can never notice the fragrance though.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

hmmmm - I just bought a winter honeysuckle for winter color. I have no idea that it is a messy shrub and that it is not fragrant.... darn. I wish I had read your post before I bought it LoL. I have very limited space so I have to be pickier than most people in what I plant. But, now that I have it, I will have to plant it because what I hate most is to throw something that is still good out.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

It should be VERY fragrant. But I just can't ever get a wiff of a scent.

I just couldn't stand it anymore and bought the most pretty orange violas at the nursery. Just had to have to spring color already. Bought some potted in bloom ranunculus also in the most lovely and vibrant colors. I do love the flowers on ranunculus but if I want them I have to buy potted ones in bloom like I just got today. I can never get anywhere by planting the bublets myself and tring to get them to grow.

Adairsville, GA(Zone 7b)

I have no luck with ranunculus, anemones or freesias. Not sure if it's me or zone 7b (no rhyme intended.) The ranunculus in the stores are beautiful; I may pick up some myself.

If you want violas that will naturalize by self-seeding, pick up some johnny-jump-up seeds. Every spring they return all over my flower bed, then disappear once it heats up. The blooms started about 2 weeks ago.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Just came back home after running some errands. Bought two planted pansey bowls at Home Depot. Those are those bowl shaped pots with pansies or violas. Mine are violas, one is light yellow and creme ones and the other purple ones. They smell sweet. Bought a packet of sugar snap peas too will plant them later. Oh yeah, bought three of those boxed roses they sell this time of year too. Keep me out of those nurseries!
