So we're finally seeing the daffodils/jonquils starting to put on their show. Found this odd man out in a patch of large trumpet types. Only one that's double with frills or fringe...whatever you would call those thingies sticking out. Must mark it so I can dig it up to start propagating.

Those are great. Beautiful photos Patty. Now I have some serious "daffodil envy". I think the part of the daffodil flower you're referring to is called the "trumpet".
Wish they would grow here, but they won't. These are my Narcissus "Grand Soleil D'or". Narcissus are really not my thing, but I guess its better than nothing at all.

Yes sir,I know the "trumpet" and if you'll look closely(or maybe I should get another shot at a different angle) there's fringy thingies coming out of the trumpet(s)

Thanks Patty. Narcissus are ok, but if I had a choice I'd come steal your daffodils!! LOL I just had to research around and see what/if any choices there were for South Florida (Zone 10). "Grand Soleil D'or" was the only one I could find that included Zone 10 in the South.
well then...I'd have to steal some Fl. tropicals....LOL. Everybody suffers from some form of zone envy
That is so true Patty. We all want what we can't have. LOL I could go to a nursery in Arkansas and you could go to one down here in Florida, and we would both be very happy at what we found.

I'm sure it would. If you like tropical plants you'd have a hard time deciding what to buy down here. You'd probably be overwhelmed and get a headache trying to limit yourself. LOL
Well,I do have a little lean-to I put my trops in for the winter. I love all of them until I start having to hump them in and out for the seasons.
I can imagine. That's not a fun task. Had to do that twice with all the potted plants back in January. Very time consuming.
It's that time again to take the plants back to the GH but not not quite ready to put my collection back out on the front patio.
Bought a cute little ladybug cache pot at the $ store yesterday. I collect ladybug stuff. I decorated my new room just to showcase my collection. Don't have much so far but I grab eveything I see w/LB's and my friends are always bringing me LB novelties.
Collecting ladybug stuff is neat. I've been into collecting solar lights the last couple of years. Do have a ladybug solar light.
No solar ladybugs but I do need to get batteries for my solar butterfly,dragonfly and hummingbird lights.
Ah ha. So you do have some solar lights also. The solar ladybug is one of my favorites along with the solar frog and solar lighthouse.
Just those 3. I caught them on sale 2-3 yrs ago. They change colors...red-green-blue. I need to hunt them up,put new batteries in them and put them outside.
Those color changing ones are pretty neat. Have a solar globe, that rests on a saucer, that changes colors through the entire color spectrum over a 30 second period. Its pretty interesting to look at.
I'd love to have more but we're rural and there's a gang of kids that roam at all hours of day and night and I wouldn't trust the solars to be out here one morning.

I know exactly what you mean Patty. I keep all of mine out back where no one can see them. I'm sure they would disappear if they were in the front yard.

That thought just crossed my mind. LOL I know you'd like the ladybug. The neighborhood isn't as bad as it used to be, but don't want to tempt anyone by putting them out front. About 5 years ago there was a plant theft problem in part of Ft Lauderdale. People would wake up, go outside, and notice some of their prized plant possessions were dug up and taken in the middle of the night. Now that's sick.

Well the daffs are starting here too... Got a line of them mixed on a border of a garden we been working on for years. I have alternated them with Stellas so that there is always something going to be blooming there. I still need umpteen of them daffs to finish out the line. Im not fussy about the varieties either.
I see those frillies you are talking about. Those are neat and unusual. Is that a hybrid?
Ladybugs.. you come to my house and bring a vacuum. You can collect all the live LB's you want! Maybe I will just bag a bunch for you! Maybe they can "bite" those nasty kids you got probs with. Sic um Dano!
Nice Blossom. My Narcissus have already finished their blooming cycle and they're just foliage now. You can't even see them in the background of this picture from today. The Texas Bluebonnets are taking over this section and have just about run over the Narcissus. Had no idea these Bluebonnets were gonna spread this much.
Wished my blue bonnets would spread like that. I've only found one so far this year.
This is the first time I've tried them. Bought seed packs at Lowes and planted them this past November. Luckily planted them in a spot that stays a bit on the dry side. Apparently they don't like too much water.
I tried them here on the prairie, they did not do anything. Dont know if uit was the seed or what. One would think that they would have done good here.
Maybe I should try them again?
You could try them again once the tide goes out. They have to be in an area that gets good sun and stays a bit on the dry side. If they're too wet they wilt and croak pretty fast. I just direct sewed mine and let them do their thing. They're not wild about transplanting. Since they did well, I decided to sew some perennial wild lupine seeds a month, or so, ago. So far so good.
Some areas on the prairie here do not flood so I will have to bare that in mind if I ever get any seed!
The daffs do awesome here. Wet feet and all! I will take all those I can get my paws on!
Tulips and hyacinths though.. depends. Sometimes they go sometimes they dont. Tulips hate water logs here.
Boy I wish daffodils would grow here, but most of them won't. There are only a couple worth trying in our climate....with no guarantees. LOL Tulips and hyacinths are not gonna happen in South Florida.
I'm so glad I tried Ranunculus this winter. They are just gorgeous and quickly becoming one of my favorite flowers. The blooms kind of remind me of roses, carnations and peonies all wrapped into one bloom. Definitely gonna plant lots more next winter. Picked a few this afternoon and put them in this vase.
Never tried nuclus'! They are very pretty Jon. Bet they would make for a nice pot crop. That is where I should do my tulips and hyacinths. In pots above ground.
You probably could force prechilled daffs, but then you would have a surplus of bulbs that you would need to do something with later. put them in a box and mail them to you know who! Hint hint! Muwaaah! LOL!
Yeah, you could jam a bunch of tulip bulbs into a pot and leave the pot outside all winter for spring blooms. I've tried chilling cold climate daffodils in the refrigerator twice and haven't had any success. Left them in there for 3-4 months and only a couple gave me little foliage. Have to stick to warmer climate daffodils where you just stick the bulbs in the ground, early winter, and they almost immediately sprout.
I do have some Ranunculus bulbs jammed into a pot and still growing. Also have some Ranunculus growing from seed. The ones blooming, "Tecolote" Ranunculus came from www.easytogrowbulbs.com.
