Digging and heeling in

My jonquils(daffodils) need to be moved and/or divided,if I wait until the right time I won't know where some of them are so I'm hoping I won't hurt them by digging them up,dividing,replanting or potting up surplus once there done flowering.Anyone have expericence in moving bulbs while still showing green?

P ~ I have done that more than once. I can't honestly say it even slowed the next seasons blooms down any. I say... DIG!

Gonna have to...they're thick as thieves out there and every year I think I'll remember where they are in the fall. Can't tell ya how many times I've gone to dig a hole for a new plant only to unearth my bulbs.

Yes & then I wonder which ones those were. The naked ladies are the ones I usually get into with a shovel. At least there are plenty to spare... Besides, when the soil is wet in the spring it is far easier to dig too.

have a bunch under a river birch that aren't getting enough sun now that the tree's gotten so big and I want to get those out before tree roots become problem....plus a brazillon others to dig and divide. There's yellow jonquils and paperwhites that I dug up at and old farm site some 30 yrs ago that never been divided since I first planted them.

Do you have a place prepared to plant them? Or are you selling them at the farmers market?

I dug up a large clump of daffs with buds and potted them up. I mailed them to my Mom in MN for her 92nd birthday in Feb. Talked to her yesterday and they are still blooming. They are tough plants.

I think you may be surprised at how well they have multiplied. I'd bet you will be ready to chunk some before you are done.

yup...the clumps of ole farm stead ones are HUGE!
