Daffodils

Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

The daffodils in this planter have started getting flower buds, but the creeping fig behind them really got hit hard by our bitterly cold winter.

They are going to look very beautiful when they are in bloom :-))

Thanks... One of the flowers just opened. I'll post an updated picture after a few more blooms pop up..

My daffodils have just about finished blooming. My Hyacinths are long bloomed.. that was just after our bad snow storm here in Feb!! Mine were unusally early, but we did have a very warm Jan. Again, not usual!
I had a Jonquil bloom.. that I had planted 5 yrs ago! That, along with some others just come up as foilage... I am thinking I may have to try to replant them this year!
I lvoe daffodils more so than tulips. I wish I had more garden space for more.. I may have to resort to containers! hahahaha

The daffodils are in full bloom now. Mostly single white/yellow and a few doubles.. I'm not sure what variety they are - came in a mixed bag..

I don't know what type my dafodils are either. I buy the mixed bags also. Doesn't matter, they look great!!!

RrrrGrrrr, Love your garden wall and plantings.

Are those pansies at the foot of your daffs? Do they grow all winter for you, I wonder?

Ellijay, GA(Zone 7a)

Curious how long daffodils last in the spring? Is it the heat that dies them off? Mine have only been out for about five days..a few started 10 days ago, but I see some around town that are wilting because of the wonderful weather. I didn't want to complain about the heat...because of the frigid winter.

It's my first year with flowers/gardens in general

One pic...

Tabasco: I think they're violas. I thought they were the same as Pansies...I have some still blooming away. Planted in September.

kdfisher- I just love that picture. It just makes me want to walk down that woodsey path. The daffodils look really great in that woodlans setting.

kdfisher is right, tabasco, they are violas. They've been blooming non-stop since November. Great garden path, kdfisher - you are lucky to live in beautiful Ellijay!

kdfisher, your pic is so beautiful! You're right about the temps and the longevity of Daff blooms. In warmer springs they are shorter lived, but some of those long, cool springs they will last and last. If this is your first year with them, they're likely blooming later than they will from here on out. The first year their timing is often off a bit, but they correct themselves thereafter. When they bloom earlier its typically cooler and the blooms will last longer.

Thanks all. I'm impressed by those Violas. My mother planted them during her last visit and they really didn't do much until the past month..or maybe I wasn't paying attention to them. Daff's are getting burnt out in some areas around here..too much heat, but they're hanging in near the cooler creek waters. I just hope my Tulips don't get hit:( They're starting to come out. Violas two days ago. Not a bulb, but worthy of a pic.

Another Daff view...my other path to the opposite direction.

The daffs really do look great along the wood path. I like the yellow violas posted also.

I've just had the last of the daffodils die & my violas & pansies are also dying.. our weather is warming up ( in the 80's) so of course these violas & pansies say "bye bye" when it gets that warm!!!!
I am going to have a lot more daffodils next year I think as I had to move a "bunch" of bulbs from one area & I divided them, they certainly did multiply so I separated them... it's going to look better next spring!!!! (I hope!).

I have a LOT of extra daffodil bulbs if anyone here is interested in trading. I have like 5 different varieties but this one I have a lot of. I am mainly looking for shade plants for new shade beds I started but I am open to anything I don't have that will be hardy here in my zone. I'd really prefer perennials. Just dmail me and we'll work something out. Thanks! Mechelle

I'd love to trade for some bulbs. I have one ancient stand of tiny yellow daffodils on tall stems, but i'd like to plant more for next spring. I have a purple passion vine (beautiful large flowers) and red "turk's cap" to trade. I grow them both in a bed that gets morning sun, but shade by noon. If you're not familar with these names, I'll find the botanical names for you. Let me know. Thanks! B
