Use of "Grow Bags" or "Smart Pots" for vegetable gardening?

I do not have enough gardening space to rotate my crops, particularly tomatoes, peppers and potatoes. ( I would also like to be able to use more of my gardening space for other crops.) Recently I have been reading about using bags for growing. These bags are marketed under various names such as grow bags, smart pots. Before I invest, I am interested in hearing from other gardeners who have tried them. Were they satisfactory? Would you buy them again? What kind of growing mix did you use? I garden in north Texas where summers are blazing hot and usually dry.

Hi, ennarose - there is a forum dedicated to this topic - it's called "Self-contained Box Gardens". It includes things like you mentioned, as well as Earth Boxes, homemade ones, 5-gallon buckets, & just about every other kind of box, pot, or bag you can think of. Some of those folks grow amazing things in them. Me? I just got started using Earth Boxes last summer here in HOT South Georgia, but my tomatoes were consumed by hornworms & stinkbugs, so I cannot give a true report. Did plant some romaine lettuce in one last fall, which grew like gangbusters! So, I am encouraged to try again!! Good luck! Samantha

Thanks for the info about the "self-contained box gardens" forum. i'll check it out. I might try lettuce in one of the smaller bags.
