Is it too late to cut/transplant a rhubarb plant?
Rhubarb too late?
I would say go ahead and transplant it. Won't hurt anything.
yea, it's tough.
I just bought/planted some, so I would say now should be a good time. Spring and fall are the rule for perennials, and I figure rhubarb would qualify.
I don't think you can kill rhubarb. Dad tried for years, by mowing mom's on a regular basis, but it always bounced back, and I now have its offspring going strong (original plant must be well over 50 by now).
I stopped by a local nursery and they have a box of rhubarb rhizones @ $2.50 ea. Must be planting season for rhubarb. I bet if I put my minors light on and prowled back yards of old neighborhoods I could get myself a bunch!!
I rented a house years ago and, while cleaning up the back yard, found a rhubarb buried under branches and shrub debris. It clearly hadn't been fed or harvested in a long while and was doing well . . .
