Questions about Alo/Colo

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Can anyone give me some input on Colocasia Gigantea and Alocasia Calidora? I grow the ones I have in large pots here in the frozen tundra zone. (Wisconsin-zone 4a). Have great luck with them in pots but hauling in a 7 or 8 foot Alo in a 20 inch pot to the greenhouse in the fall is a job for the "not faint of heart or muscle". LOL Actually, it requires 1 man (spouse), 1 woman (me) and 1 industrial Ford tractor with front end loader........:>)

Logees has both in their latest catalogue I just got the other day and am thinking of splurging for them, plus the colocasia Mojito.

Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Eat a good healthy breakfast, exercise regularly, and by the end of summer you'll be ready for the move. :O)

This is how I moved my Typhonodorum lindleyanum of similar dimensions. That's as short-cut as the job can get.

Oh, well, those first requirements are no problem...........hubby and I are competitive bodybuilders, so we have the workouts and meals down pat.

Here were my monsters before dividing. I called them my "man eaters".

Well, you've got no worries, include it as part of your training program. I'll leave it up to you as to how many reps you want to do. ;O)

They don't stay babies for long, not backward at all. Mine's 3 metres tall now but the trunk is becoming so massive the tractor would probably be flat out lifting it now.

I just got to thinking............I wonder what a couple of these would do if I planted them in the nice black muck of the creek in the cow pasture. The cows couldn't get to them, we have all the creek fenced off but a cemented walk-through..........hmmm.........that might be cool to drive by and see these massive things growing. I have a bunch of them I need to divide; no big loss if they'd croak. LOL

If you've got extras that would look great. And they should really like the "black muck".

I visited Brians Botanicals...........oh my stars is all I have to say about THAT. I think there's gonna be an order SOON going that way. :>)

I try to keep away from places like that. But they're like Siren's Songs to me.

Too funny...............but I know how it is. I suffer from the same malady myself. :>)
