Hi hoya fans! I was wondering if anyone out there had ordered from hoyaplants.com before? He indicates that prices are for generous cuttings. I was wondering if that was true and if anyone was successful with rooting?
Info on hoya grower needed.
Yes I have to my everlasting regret. I ordered 3 cuttings from Mr. Jacobs last fall. All arrived in poor shape. One cutting, H. bella iml 1609, arrived completely dried out and he still refuses to replace it. Another, H. carnosa rubra, was the wrong plant altogether. He sent me H. compacta (non-variegated), then had the gall to insist that these are the same plant. Only when I pointed out his own pictures, did he agree to replace it though he still insisting there was no error. As I had already got the plant from another source by then--a much larger rooted plant for much less--he was gracious enough to offer a replacement plant of comparable value. I chose H. 'Tanna Island', but the cutting I received turned out to be infested with spider mites. Fortunately, I had kept the plant isolated. [This was the only case of mites I've had in over a year.] I was only able to edaicate the mites with alcohol and soap, but the cutting was near dead by then. Still trying to root it four months later.
I've since found that his prices are quite high and many (larger plants) can be purchased elsewhere either pre-rooted or potted for considerably less money. I've never had such a bad mail order experience in over 40 years and hundreds of orders. Mr. Jacobs has come off as both arrogant and rude both on the phone and in e-mails, and he stopped responding altogether, still owing me plants.
I would recommend going elsewhere.
I've seen the website but never ordered from them. It's good to hear feedback and I hope you will add them to DG's GardenWatchdog: http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/ and leave your feedback which will help other's before they consider buying from this company.
edited to say: There's a place at the top of the GardenWatchdog screen, click on Add a Company.

I have dealt with Mr. Jacobs in the past, selling plants to him. I found his arrogance and his demands, along with his unethical (in my opinion) business practices too tiresome to deal with. I refuse to deal with him as a vendor. Life is too short!

Egads! Thanks for your input! I was crusing past his site and figured, what the heck, may as well ask! I'm glad I did! I'm getting too "old" to deal with difficult people! Thanks everyone!
