That is a beauty, Elizabeth!. I have a Versicolor Peach. I sure hope she gets large enough to bloom that way. Do you know the difference between the versi peach and versi orange? How did you overwinter her? Or did you take cuttings?

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I love them all, don't think there is a bad brug.

Hamilton, OH

Hi Dee, Veronica & Charlene
it's good to see you, I have clippings of Versa color Orange, I left one in the ground, just too see if it makes it, I am glad you like it, in 2001, that was my first Brug, still my DH's favorite, now I have all these doubles, I hope they Bloom the same way this Sprin/Summer

Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Dee
Thank you for the new link, someday I'll be able too do that

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Hello, everyone. How was everyones weather today. It got to 42 here today and it was beautiful, but I didn't get anything done in the yard. I went running around with my daughter, instead. We hit a few thrift stores, which is our favorite thing to do together.
Elizabeth, I can't wait to see if your versi orange that you left outside makes it. Did you do anything special to protect it from the cold?
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
it sounds like you had a wonderful day, running around with you DD must have been fun, I mulched the Versa color Orange, I will know in a couple of months, right now I don't see any new growth, lets keep our fingers crossed, I have clippings just in case

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Elizabeth. It was a great day. It is supposed to be 50-52 everyday next week here. If it's not raining, I will be cleaning up the yard and gathering up planters, birdbaths etc all in one area, so when the time comes, they will be ready to go.I need to get in the shed and get rid of a bunch of stuff too. We are waiting on the closing now, which can take up to 6 weeks. Gives us plenty of time to be ready. I need boxes...lots of boxes..lol
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
I hope you get that house, that will be sooo exciting, do you have a Krogers there, they have some good egg boxes, they will save them for you if you ask, that enclosed back porch is worth it, it's amazing, I love it, it looks like it's 3 times bigger than mine, I can just see it this winter just full of Brugs, Blooming

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Yes, we have a kroger's. I will stop in the next day or two, and ask about their egg boxes. It looks like we are going to get it(if all goes ok, and I think it will. Elizabeth, that room is 11 X 18..if I remember correctly. the back side faces east, so it will get good morning sun...I have so many plans for that room...lol I would like to build daybeds, with rollers on them, to set at window level. That way, I would be able to roll them around, in the winter...to the other end of the room, and still have plenty of room, for company. it does have a heat vent, in there, but we are planning on putting in a propane space heater, in the back corner, because I don't think one little heat vent will heat that room, with all those windows.Yep, that is where all the brugs will be next winter, and maybe me too..lol
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
that sounds wonderful, I am so happy for you, it will be the perfect place, for your plants, it will be Georgeous when you have it all filled up with plants, I am sure there will be plenty of Pic's

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

You know it Elizabeth! I have so much to do...gotta get this one ready to sell too.I will be ready to get away, the first week end in April, for sure!!..lol
Can you believe it is supposed to be above 50 everyday next week. The Spring bulbs will really pop, won't they? I don't have any crocus planted, but every Sping I swear that I'm gonna plant some come fall..maybe this fall..lol
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
you will have all those Spring bulbs planted this fall at your new Place, so next Spring it will be Georgeous, I want to see Pic's as soon as you get moved in, I wish my back porch was that size, in a way, in another way I am glad it's small
because of the cost of heat

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Even if everything goes ok, it will probably be the first of may before we get moved, because we have to put down all new floor coverings and I want to paint inside, before we move our stuff in.And we have to fence in a section of the yard for the dogs.We will probably get moved in just in time to plant the brugs! I think the only plants that I am going to take from this yard are the flowering shrubs that I put in last summer. There will be plenty left here..no one will miss them...lol
Yes, it will cost extra to heat that room, but we are going to be saving lots of money on utilities by moving there. It has a well, for one thing and the main part of the house is smaller than here and lots better insulated. We don't need this big old house...we need a smaller house and a bigger yard..lol...just what we are getting.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
it's so exciting, I am glad for you, to get a bigger yard, I really want too remoldel this one & move to the country, here you have too listen too all the firetrucks, the firestation is about 4 Blocks away, after living here for 5 yrs you get use too it, but you don't have to like it & Lowes is about 5 minutes away

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I am gonna get off of here for tonight. I am soooo sleepy.
Goodnight Elizabeth.
Dee

Elizabeth,
A DG Brug lover who still lurks, but doesn't post much gave me a heads up on your "Versicolor Orange". So I came back to take a look at the photo again. I should have noticed the first time, but the Brug was so gorgeous I didn't take a closer look at the flower form. I now believe she is correct. This Brug is not a versicolor. B. versicolor species blooms show off a good portion of the corolla neck. The corolla is trumpet shaped (The corolla doesn't flare much until close to the end). The flower hangs vertically.

I don't know if your Brug has produced seed pods, but versicolor seedpods are very long and narrow.

I debated whether to say anything or not, but we DGers tend to share cuttings so much that to let it go only increases the number of owners of mis-identified Brugs. I'm sorry. :-(

Hamilton, OH

Veronica
it hasn't produced seedpods, but I haven't pollenated by hand, I aslo share cuttings, you should always say something
if it benefits Brug lover's, what did she think it was if not Versa color Orange? it would be interesting too know, since that is what the label said, Thank you for posting that, it is my favorite scented Brug

Elizabeth

Nowra, NSW,, Australia(Zone 9b)

Its a B. x cubensis Elizabeth.

It looks very much like 'Charles Grimaldi' and 'Dr Seuss', and as it has conspicuously toothed leaves on the flowering branches, I think that makes it 'Dr Seuss' (??). But it is very difficult to identify Brugmansia cvs properly from pics!

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Alistair hit it on the nose. She thought it was Dr. Seuss, but as Alistair states, it's difficult to tell of one photo. It might be best to call her a noid.

Hamilton, OH

Allistai
Thank you for your response, I love it no matter what it is. the fragrance is amazing, I just hope my doubles Bloom as great a this one, you're right about not being able to identify by Pic's, I have some doubles I hope they're the right one's

Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

II don't know why the double post

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Well, it is beautiful, no matter what it is..and if you come up with a extra cutting this year, I would love to have one! lol
Another beautiful day here, and I got some more seeds sown.I started some seeds of a special begonia...can't remember the name right now, but I'll go look in a few minutes. I've read that they don't come true from seed, but I saw a pic of one started from seed and it looks like the original, so we will see.

You now have me REALLY interested in Brugs!!!! lol

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I love the colour and form of that one, Elizabeth. If it smells good then it is even better!
Hi Dee, I am glad you got to spend time with your Grand Children.. I still have not been able to get outside yet, been at the Garden Show all week.. none of those Garden displays compared to what I have seen here on DG.

Hamilton, OH

Good afternoon everyone
2racingboys, once you see them in your yard, & smell the scent at night, you want too spend all your time outside, once you get one, see it Bloom, you are addicted
Debra, I bet you had fun at the Garden shows, did you buy anything? I can't wait to have our own Garden displays, this Spring/Summer

Elizabeth

Fenton, MI(Zone 5b)

Hey Elizabeth,
You are in my zone I think. I am in Michigan. I love your brug too! But my question is about over wintering. Do you bring in the whole pot or do you cut it down and keep it in water with out leaves until it roots and can be repotted in spring?
Thanks for any shared info you can lend.
Julie

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi Julie, I am pretty sure you should either bring them in where there is light and let them grow, or let them go dormant roots being watered about a cup a month, or cut them off, and keep them in a bubbler tub.. I bring all mine in since they would die in our climate in winter, some I cut off at the bottom, and root the stem pieces, keepp the bottom going, and some I leave in pots and keep them under good strong lights and water and spray them. I bet Elizabeth can give you expert advice.
I d not have a greenhouse, but I have turned my unused half finished basement into a nursery. I have over 800 sq feet I use.

I did not buy any thing at the Garden Show, but I did buy an "Elizabeth" and now it is budding..
I just love JTs brugs..

Julie
I am glad I checked in this morning, I put mine in the ground after the danger of frost has passed in the Spring, let them grow until the end of October, then I lift them, put them in Pots in my Basement under lights, they wouldn't make it in the ground our weather is just too bad in the winter, I am in ohio, I think your winters are worse than mine, when I take mine in I do trim them back, but I always leave the Y, so I have earlier Blooms
Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Debra
You have a wonderful set up in your basement, from the looks of the Pic's you have shown us it, looks like a Greenhouse, it's so great to go to our basements & see signs of life, are your Brugs waking up? I think they know when it's time too wake, even if you have them in low light

Elizabeth

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

My brugs are so awake it is funny, they are praying at night for spring.. ( leaves folding up means they are ready) I am very patient tho.. last March after 60 degree weather on the 28th we had a late heavy snow storm. about four inches. by March 31st, it was up to 70. That is Kansas for ya.. Yes I have full lights for my brugs.. on at 6:30 am and off at 10 pm. total darkness for the green house except the little seed growing area ...and that is at the other end of the basement.
Debra

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

WOW!!!! That's one insane flush!!! ♥

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Elizabeth, before I go to bed, I have a question, which side of your house do youplant your brugs in the ground? east? North? my back yard faces east my front faces west...
