Help & Info on Gladiolus Bulbs

San Angelo, TX(Zone 7b)

My neighbor bought a pack of Gladiolus Bulbs (20 mixed corns) at Walmart. He isn't sure when to plant them. Of course being a DG member I think I can help him, with the help of someone who knows when to plant them. I told him I'd check and try to get him some info.
If anyone can help me, I sure would appreciate it (so will Mr. Pearse) :)

It should say on the package when to plant in your area. Here we plant as soon as the ground can be worked & hard frost is not a problem.

Thanks Bernie, I'll go tell him right now

If he wants to spread the blooms out a little, he can plant half now and the other half 3 weeks later.

yes

That's pretty smart! I'll tell him

Works only the first year, when you leave them in the ground then next year they flower all at the same time.

Dig them after flowering, store them and plant the same schedule and it works again or just plant some additional ones.

Glad corms multiply in the ground in southern zones, too. I have planted and dug them up a year or two later and found two or three stuck together.

They actually multiply every year. The bulb you plant grows the stalks. Each stalk produces a new bulb. Also little bulbs grow all over the big ones. They can be planted & will bloom the second year.

Wow-OK-
So after they flower, he should dig them up and save them?
Maybe he will give me some and I could plant them next year?
