Darwin Tulips

Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

This year I decided to plant violas instead of pansies with my tulips. In general, I think they work much better for container plantings where people can appreciate them up close and personal. Picture taken today of a couple of ancient (50 yrs+) concrete planters out back with Darwin tulips and violas..

What is the plant at the left that is white and green? Nice containers for your plants.

Pretty planters, they'll be gorgeous when the tulips bloom! That green & white plant looks like ornamental kale. I usually think of kale for fall, did you grow it from seed?

Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Yes, the white/green plant on the left is an ornamental kale I bought as a filler plant from Home Depot. I start lots of things from seed, but not that one..

Thanks for letting me know. The planters are so pretty.

You do a great job on your containers. I have never thought of doing bulbs and then pansies or violas on top, great idea.

Great idea for containers, particularly since tulips tend to fade after the first year. My Darwins aren't anywhere close to blooming. But I have an couple iris buds that are getting close.

V. pretty color echo going on with your violas and tulips, RG. And of course your pots are to die for!

I have to keep our tulips on the deck to save them from the deer.

(this pick is from last year).

Thanks, I know what you mean about the deer, tabasco. I live in the city, but we had deer last year that ate the hibiscus I planted in the pots by the front door. They are like big pretty rats..
