Daphne is in bloom. I want to roll in those bushes. Why is there no daphne fragrance available?
I don't know if heaven is paved in gold but I hope there is daphne everywhere all the time!
Daphne heaven
I love them too. What kind do you have?
The kind that smells wonderful! I thought there were only 2 kinds; one that is scented and one not. tell me more.

Daphne bholua is what I have in the front yard and a carol mackie in the back yard. The Carol Mackie was a gift from dear Lenjo.
Thank you for the link. I want to envelope my house in diff. varieties!
I didn't know they had that many. LOL
Some of then can be quite finicky and die suddenly for no reason. It would probably be a good idea to ask some questions first.
Yes, I had one as healthy as can be which just up and died for no apparent reason. I replaced it though, well worth it for the fragrance. My current daphne is 'marginata' and it seems to grow in a very spindly fashion - its favorite direction is either straight down into the dirt or a long looping sideways swoop. I'm going to prune it hard after bloom this year to see if I can coerce it into a better shape.
I like 'Carol macki' and the low-growing dark pink one. They are really hardy.
2 D. odora marginata, several D. medfordensis 'Lawrence Crocker', and a houtteana.
They all smell pretty much the same to varying intensities, but a few are scentless, at least to humans.
I highly recommend Mr. Crocker - very reliable.
Daphnes have a reputation for being fussy, when actually they are pretty stalwart. Like many plants, they are sensitive to a variety of fungal diseases, so planting the crown high, pruning to an open shape, don't overwater (they do well a bit drier), replacing mulch annually (that's where the fungal spores live) - all help to keep them happy.
I have daphne odora "Rebecca" on my wish list. Anyone know anthing about that one?
Carol Mackie is my very favorite daphne right now. Mine blooms basically all summer, and it is close enough to my back door to scent the house. I have a couple of odora marginatas as well, and just added Daphne Eternal Fragrance, which although tiny, is going to have bunches of blooms for it's size this spring. Can't wait to be able to do the sniff test!
