I was given a plant in a pot.
It is growing long (3 ft) sword-like leaves (not as stiff or thick as mother-in-law tongue though, these are more graceful). The leaves as a light green and solid color. And twice now, a bulb has formed but then it withers before flowering.
The person that gave it to me said that the flower will be red and I guess it just forms a single flower.
Does anyone have a guess as to what this plant could be? And/or why a bulb starts to form but them collapses?
Thanks!
non-flowering flower - what is it?
Could be a hurricane lily. They have leaves now, but they'll die back until around Labor Day and then there will be a stalk with flowers followed by leaves.
There's also spider lilies, but I don't know much about them.
if its 3 ft long leaves red and is a bulb Im guessing an amaryillis plant

Thanks for the guesses, stephanietx, but blkraven2, I think you nailed it. That's exactly what it looks like. Good, now I can read up on amaryllis and maybe figure out why the bulb keeps failing.
Thank you!
whoo hooo!!! I got somethng right!!!!....lol...
Well, phooey! Didn't even think of an amaryllis!
