I went to see PHOE for the first time this weekend. I use the excuse that they had a Begonia flower show. Tim Anderson said it wasn't much of a show because of the tough winter/storm that they've had but I thought it was fantastic! I spent the entire day shopping in this begonia heaven and would highly recommend it.
They have 10 greenhouses mostly filled with begonias and one for testing new hybrids. The place was amazing! Here's a pic of some that were "bonzai'ed"
Their begonias were ginormous. I wish I could post more than one photo per posting. I think this one is Golden Glow.

Not sure about Vista but you should be able to right click on the picture and rotate clockwise or counter clockwise.
PHOE is a great place to visit!! They have awesome aroids too.
Do you drive across the country every weekend? I have to work up to Lyndon Lyon - 45 minutes away.
No Db. I flew there and back. I was telling Butch that it was crazy to spend so much money for the flight and all but I had a great time. How can you beat 70's weather and blue skies when you have to go back to drizzles and 30's weather in St. Louis?

OK you've got me! I stayed two nights and really needed just two outfits which I can use my carry on for. Southwest is my fav airlines because it allows two suitcases for checked luggage and one carry one. It was a bit challenging to do the curbside check in with my rental car parked in a drop off zone...
I hereby crown you queen of the begoniaholics. Did you notice in the Begonian that Peace Tree farm is going to let one of the begonia societies have an open house and sale to the public? I'm trying to convince my DH that we should go. He said I had enough begonias. Silly man....

Yes I did notice that notice. Apparently if you are an ABS member, they will sell to individuals too ( already inquired with Lloyd traven, owner). I don't think I can make that sale date though.
so an ABS member (me) can order individual plants and have them shipped? or only whole flats?
My understanding is that you can buy individual plants but I need to check with Lloyd. I don't think I can get whole flats and take them home by flight. I was planning to go in May when I go to DC to see the Begonia show. Want to meet me there?
I have to clean the house in preparation for your visit here!!! I have to check just how far away Peace Tree is from my house. It would be a very dangerous place for me (and my bank acct.)
I am so jealous!!!! Gorgeous photos!!! Gonna have to try to make that trip too!! We still need to meet up at C of O--weather is beginning to co-operate now. I am going to California-- anyone know any good begonia nurseries in the San Fernando Valley area? I am staying with my sister and she already vetoed a trip to kartuz;( She might take me to Santa Barbara-- but really hates to drive in the traffic out there-- I have lived in the sticks so long not sure my nerves could handle it or I would rent a car.

ABS Convention is in S.F. this August - mark your calendars.
I am going to Calif- April 29 thru May 6. Have a couple commitments between now and then--but nothing major.
