How to ship to the U.K.

Ellendale, DE(Zone 7a)

Hi. I have a friend in the U.K. who would like a small offset from one of my plants. My plan is to use a box no bigger than the small priority mail U.S. box. Here are my questions:

Is there anything special I need to know about shipping boxes overseas to England?
Will the package be subject to being opened en route (customs, inspection)?
Will the postage be astronomical?
Will the receiver have to pay for my ignorance on these matters?

Any and all answers will be greatly appreciated.

To ship to the EU countries take a customs and an inspectation.

Usually packages are inspected and opened not all but most in my experience

It will be about 30.00 + dollars on shipping to overseas.

Hope this answers your questions

You'll have to fill out a customs form. If you are honest and say plant cutting, it will be opened and most likely confiscated and destroyed. To ship live plant material overseas requires a phyto-sanitary certificate.

I know it sounds silly, but say your cutting had an insect or disease that hitchhiked along that was new to the UK, If it's something that has a natural predator in the states to keep it in check but that predator is not in the UK, it could establish itself quite successfully and the UK might have another insect or disease problem to deal with.

This scenario has happened many times here in the states. Consider Dutch Elm disease.

The bottom line is, in my opinion, DON'T do it.
