Apologies to all

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

as I know this is a question many probably have had...butr the Search Engine is down and I need to pick your brains re: Powdery Mildew on Squash. It has fried 3 of my plants. How to control? My plants get lots of breeze, no direct rain and there are alot of fungal spores in the area. Other plants don't have it. Any ideas?

You might want to try a foliar spray like a dilute solution of milk and water, or baking soda and water. http://bit.ly/aSQgS1

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Those will work , another option is resistant cultivars.

I have tried looking for resistent cultivars...really difficult. Anybody with any ideas???

From Cornell University http://vegetablemdonline.ppath.cornell.edu/NewsArticles/Winter_PM_Resistant.html

Butternut types:
Betternut 401 and Bugle
Green acorn squash types:
Autumn Delight, Royal Ace PM, Sweet REBA, Table Star, and Taybelle PM
Specialty types:
Bush Delicata – elongated green fruit with white stripes
Celebration - gold striped acorn
Harlequin – green striped acorn

You can also check the charts at http://vegetablemdonline.ppath.cornell.edu/Tables/TableList.htm for all kinds of vegetables, since you didn't say if it was summer or winter squash you were looking for.

Depends on what type of squash you're looking for. High Mowing has a powdery-mildew-resistant yellow summer squash and acorn squash.

And here's a zucchini from Fedco http://www.fedcoseeds.com/seeds/SeedsOrderItem.php?id=1424&listname=Squash

You can google PM resistant squash and find more.

Incidentally, I've read that you should hose down the plants before you spray them with milk or baking soda. It's supposed to knock off some of the spores and/or fry them in the hot midday sun, something like that. Not sure if it's true. But most sources say that powdery mildew does not need excessive moisture to grow and spread.

Dividedsky...You can say that again!!! We usually have alot of rain, but this year has been a drought, dry winds etc.... Sure made a believer out of me...the seed really does matter!!!

Thanks for the links...off to investigate!!!

Good luck! I'm sure you hate seeing that ugly white stuff just as much as I do.

The PM resistant one from High Mowing is not resistant. Mine has mildew on it right now. I just found it today. I will spray with milk tomorrow. It has not affected the fruits yet.

Sweet Reba acorn squash? Dang, I just ordered it a few days ago. Or Success? I decided against that one because I wanted the round yellow squash.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Success is the one I tried.
