I ordered a package of Orchid Cactus hybrids from Thompson and Morgan in 1994. 25 seeds came in the pack. It said "Blooming within 2 1/2 years". Out of the 25 seeds planted September 1994, I have 6 healthy plants. When the heck can I expect blooms? I am suffering a vast inferiority complex looking at all the gorgeous blooms in this forum! This is not the first time a seedsman lied either, I bought Bird of Paradise seeds from Shumway at the same time, and the pack said blooms in one year...needless to say that didn't happen, although I have a happy plant that I can say I grew from a seed.
T & M lied to me!
Karidan: Though I understand your frustration, you have done a wonderful job of growing epies from seeds! Your plants are very healthy looking. For having been growing your seeds for over 15 years, yes, you should have bloomed them by now. Most are supposed to bloom in 7years. Make sure you put them outside as soon as the weather warms and leave them outside as long into the fall that you can and avoid allowing them to freeze. Bloom should come.
very nice plants.
