Just took these pix and really annoyed @ false focus lock, because these 2 circled together PLAYING TAG overhead for two or three full minutes! One would follow the other, then they'd zip into a tandem barrel roll and reverse their order! I know my locals & I know the important fieldmarks: wedge tail on smaller bird is raven--have seen these guys around up close, as with the few crows we get around here, and am 100% sure our crows are WAY smaller and have a curved tail, not a wedge. That means there are really only 2 things the larger bird could be, both of them dark or mostly dark and both of which have long wings held very straight (unlike the white base & back-swept primaries of the only other bird in that size class, the osprey, which isn't back yet)...bald or golden eagle, either way I'm freakin' ecstatic at having seen not only obvious play but the raven sweeping back through only a few minutes later, still doing barrel rolls for fun only right in front of my window.
snakey is hyperventilating now!!
Nice capture! Love it when nature (lets you in) on sights like these. Agree with Raven and immature Bald Eagle, crow would be much smaller, and I see the wedged tail.
Having had (barely) enough time to check the sequence in iPhoto, I'm confident the larger bird is the same very juvenile bird I just photographed doing aerobatics with a slightly older bald eagle. I'm totally excited--this has been one of THOSE days, but a rare good one!
Lucky dog.....I know I would be about to burst!
They sure are fun to watch. I see lots of crows, ravens and even hawks that constantly chase and dive at our eagles. They sure make dramatic photos.
