I got a new nummularis last week. An EA plant. Beautiful and really full. Dropping leaves Like mad. So I looked under the layers of hanging foliage and found that it is seems to be rotting at the soil underneath. The leaves have fallen ontop of soil And are fungus ridden. Do I have to chop up whole plant and start the unaffected pieces in fresh soil? Do the pieces need to be disinfected? If so... what do I use to kill fungus on cuttings without harming them? Please help? Is the mold a threat to cuttings and other plants I have inside? I feel so ignorant right now!! I inspected all of my new plants well but, never thought to look underneath all those layers. It looked so healthy and happy! :(
Dischidia nummularia...PLEAAE HELP!!!
Hi Locoluna,
Haven't talked to you in awhile. Did we ever get another trade going or not? Hope everything is going good for you.
I think I would take it back to where I bought it and complain (especially if it was Lowes)
There are sprays that you can use, I use Physan20 alot, especially with my orchids. It controls a long list of plant ailments. I would definately keep it quarantined until you get it under control. Sounds like it may be past saving, but I am always one to try to save it.
Hope you can save it, TTYL
He GAgirl. Yes. We did a trade and everything is awesome!! I did not get it at a big box store. Rather a private nursery too far to bother with that. Too bad. I may be able to pick rotting leaves From soil and top layer of soil and spray with something? But what? And it will be real scraggly if I do that. Can I soak good stems in bleach solution? What about peroxide??
Anyone? Anything?? My instinct tells me to propagate what I can. Seems Like a lot of soil for a Dischidia anyway. Was thinking of lying on top of coir in a shallow container. Am I on the right track?
On this forum, somewhere a couple of months ago, I posted a thread about my fungicide of choice...quite all purpose....Dipel I believe but you might check it out....
I would cut off the vines, dunk them in Physan20 (good product), lay the bare stems on some loose mix, cover them with a bit of loose mix (or tree fern bark or....) and keep them damp...NOT WET.
Thank you so much!! I love this plant. It is a variegated form of nummularis... so pretty. Wish me luck...
