Cedar Wax Wings

Jackson, MO(Zone 6b)

We have 24 Cedar Waxwings visiting our backyard this week. What fun!

That's great birder. Congratulations!

I think most people don't pay attention to just how handsome they are. Have you ever paid attention to how many Holly berries one can eat at a time? It's truly an amazing sight.

Yes the waxwings are a real bonus for us--we don't see them too often. And then, their just "passing through". I know they can clean a berried tree in a hurry. I put currents out, but they thumbed their noses....eerr beaks!

Birder, they just arrive here and stay for only as long as the berries last on all our trees too. And, they refused to eat the red berries on my Heavenly Bamboo plants too. Guess they're finicky eaters, but we do enjoy seeing these beautiful birds.

They winter over here. We get 50 or more in my circle during the Christmas count, and they're always on the move.

What kind of shrubs do y'all have? Will the waxwings eat fruit like raisins & grapes?

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

i had about a dozen at my birdbath yesterday! first time in many years that i've seen them. they were eating the dried seeds of my Vitex (planted next to birdbath). they are really a treat to see and then, whooshh, they're gone!

Carol, Waxwings loves grapes. and the Mountain ash berries are a delicacy. I had the Bohemian waxwings last year eating the grapes.

I wish I had put grapes out. I put dried currants and they didn't touch them.

I think I need to buy some grapes....
