CLOSED: What were these little shore birds?

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

They were really far away, so pictures are cropped to blurriness. They were near some Killdeer and were much smaller than the Killdeer. I wouldn't have seen them at all but they were running along the edge of the water.

If they are much smaller than Killdeer's then that makes them one of the tiny Sandpipers. My best guess from the photo's would be (maybe) Semipalmated Sandpipers.

That sure looks like it, but my book says that they are not found in this area. My book is sometimes wrong though. I wonder if they didn't look so much smaller b/c they didn't pay attention to me. They kept their heads down. The Killdeer even though they were too far away even for a decent picture were sounding the alarm, heads held high. I think you're right about sandpiper but maybe a Spotted Sandpiper?

I tried to find a pic with both Killdeer and this sandpiper to check size, but couldn't. Here is a Killdeer near the water's edge that might help if you have better spacial abilities than I have.

Look like Least Sandpipers to me - note the yellowy-brown legs (black in Semi-palmated, and Semi-p should be in South America at this time of year too).

I went back to the same spot, saw them again, climbed halfway down the embankment and took some more pics. I think Least Sandpiper looks right.
