I would love to participate...but do have a question.

How do I know that the birds I am counting are not the same ones that keep coming back? LOL

Anyhow...here the types I had today.

Bluebirds
Cardinals
Tufted Titmouse
House Sparrows
Grackles
Crows
RH Woodpeckers
Robins
Wrens
Goldfinch
Doves
Crows

AND, OF COURSE, SQUIRRELS !!!!!

I am still new to indentifying but I am learning. All of my feeders are on my 2nd story deck and were put up a fews yrs ago to keep my cats entertained.

My husband and I have grown to love watching and are amused by the various personalities that these birds have.

We now have a bird book with great pictures.....hopefully in the future I can be more precise in identification.

I really enjoy reading this particular forum. The pictures are just wonderful!

I have, in the past, asked questions in this forum. They were promply answered with friendliness and warmth. I wish to thank you all for making me feel welcome.

Hi Carole, It's just the highest number you see at one time. So if at one time you see 10 Robins and no more than 10 than thats your final count.

Mashpee, MA

I had a Coopers hawk in and out of the yard today which was impeding my count! But here goes for today:

Red bellied woodpecker-2
Flicker-1
Hairy woodpecker-4
Downy woodpecker-3
White breasted nuthatch-2
Red breasted nuthatch-1
Black capped chickadee-6
Tufted titmouse-8
Mourning doves-14
Goldfinch-21
Crow-3
Blue jay-3
Eastern bluebird-4
Hermit thrush-1 (unusual visitor!)
Carolina wren-2
House sparrow-2
Robin-1
Junco-5
Song sparrow-2
Cardinal-2

And one Coopers hawk

Mashpee, MA

Wow, nanny....a pileated! Lucky you!!!

Marlton, NJ

Nice variety sacar! I didn't have as many different birds today as yesterday.

European Starlings 11

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow, y'all have some great variety. I'm wondering where my regular birds have gone. The mockingbirds, for example, have been in my pyracantha every day except yesterday and today -- not a one! Carolina Wren didn't show up today either.

This is what I had though:

Red-bellied Woodpeckers -- 2
White-winged Doves -- 25
Mourning Doves -- 6
House Sparrows -- 11
Common Grackles -- 65
Great-tailed Grackles -- 5
Cardinals -- 2
Robin -- 1
Starlings -- 2
Red-winged Blackbirds -- 33
Downy Woodpecker -- 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet -- 1
American Goldfinch -- 9
Hawk -- either a Coopers or Sharp-shinned -- have it on the ID forum but haven't gotten an answer yet. What do you think?

I seen more Horned Lark's than all the total of my count, any where there was a corn field they were right along side of the road. Easily over 300... if you don't have one on your list and have corn field's in your area, take a ride..I know a lot of you have a lot of snow like me... so condition's are right for seeing them along the roads.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Nice Burd. I went looking yesterday morning. Lots of sun, so I was all excited. nuthin. a few tree sparrows and juncos along the road though.

Marlton, NJ

Nice assortment Burd!

Elphaba, I know what you mean about the Mockingbird. Same thing here.

Mashpee, MA

Wow, Burd. That must be some patio...what a great assortment!

Marlton, NJ

I had to go to the Bird Store in the next town because I ran through 50 pounds of Black Oil Sunflower Seed in less than 7 days!

Saw these birds over there.

Mallard 2
Canada Geese 28
Turkey Vulture 2
Carolina Chickadee 4
White-breasted Nuthatch 1
Northern Cardinal 5
White-throated Sparrow 3
House Sparrow 4

Whoops, wrong thread, should have been on the 14th.

Downy Woodpecker 2
Hairy Woodpecker 1
Northern Flicker 5

The crazy birds are eating over 25 pounds of Sunflower seeds per day plus tons of thistle and other specialty seeds. I am not complaining...in 2007/2008 they were eating 50 pounds a day!! I have a sweet husband who does not complain...he's askeered of me!! LOL!

189?

OMG

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Ha...now you know why I only counted them on one day! Luckily most of them were on the feeders but I know there were lots in the trees that I missed. Those little pigs are eating about 10 pounds of thistle seed a day...please don't tell DH!!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

that's just crazy. I can just imagine the sound.

Marlton, NJ

OMG 189 Goldfinch??? Now I know where their at. LOL

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

that has to be insane!!! I like them but I don't want that many! I would like some of those Purple Finch .....

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Year before last we had 212...geez they are everywhere. They empty these socks plus five other thistle feeders almost everyday! For some reason the finches love it here.

I'll take the kingfishers. the bluebirds would be welcome here to eat, but they have to stay away for breeding because the house sparrows would be too dangerous.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

and do you see those numbers all year?

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

The Gold and Purple play well together!

Thumbnail by dellrose
Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

that's because gold and purple are on the opposite sides of the color wheel. complimentary colors!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

The Goldfinch will almost disappear during breeding season and then start coming back again. Then they seem to migrate south and I think we get a whole new batch for winter. I would have to stop feeding if they were like this all year long. Also in the summer months there is lots of natural feed for them.

LOL...I should know that!!

Sandusky, OH

Nice collection all! 189? Now that's a lot of Goldfinch's!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

So that's where all the goldfinches have gone! I've never had anywhere near that many but I usually have 30+. This year, my biggest number was 15. Guess they like your house better than mine.
