It's Snowing! Show me your Pix

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Just after sunset it began .. should get fluffier as time goes on.

It just started coming down here and it is already sticking which is strange since it is still 40 degrees. The flakes are huge but I am not as talented a photographer as you are X so I can't show you a good picture tonight.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I used a flash at 50% of intensity with a fast shutter speed. It's starting to stick on concrete here .. already about 1/2 to 3/4 inches accumulated. Sometimes its coming down big and fluffy and other times it looks like string. That 's probably because it's its trying to be rain.

Oh my. so we actually may get some.....

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Couldn't resist! We're up to 3 inches now.

It's just about stopped snowing here, but we ended up with a lot more than expected. The car had close to 7 inches on it last I checked. Back deck had more than that in places. Pretty amazing - haven't had this kind of show in years, maybe a decade.

Not bad for just a 6 hour snow event. Wish we could have just one of these events yearly, instead of once every 5-8 years.

It's coming down in globs now and I can hear limbs crashing to the ground. I had forgotten how much light reflects with snow on the ground .. if you turn off all the lights outside you can see everything.

I noticed that too, it's almost surreal how much light is bounced around by the snow; you'd think it was almost a full moon out. I also love the soft sound of it - how it dampens all other noises. I think most of us got a lot more than we expected; Columbia metro is saying it's the 5th snowiest day on record.

I just now found out what all those flashes are I'm seeing .. I thought maybe emergency vehicles .. apparently its transformers blowing! So far we haven't lost power but I filled up the kerosene heater in case we have none when I wake up.

It's still coming down pretty good here. I dug through my junk closet and found my snow boots .. been outside having fun. My fingers are freezing .. everything except the greenhouse is covered in snow. Up to 5 inches in my back yard on the patio table.

Lol .. I'm having so much fun I can't stay inside!

It's getting kinda scary out side as I'm hearing more and more branches crash to the ground.

I think it's so cool you guys and folks in C-town are getting all this snow too - that's extremely unusual for you all isn't it? You all might get more than we did. Just at 7 inches and the snow's outta here now. Hoping it won't all melt tomorrow - it's always depressing to watch snow melt.

I remember a few years ago we had a similar transformer issue in a bad icestorm - all through the night you'd see the blue/white flashes - and then sometimes you'd hear the "pop" of the transformer blow.

The best part of this snow was it was the really fluffy type - good for snowmen, snowball fights, and good old southern Snow Cream. Best enjoy it while we can - probably won't see anything like this again for another decade.

Please post your recipe for snow cream. sounds like my little one would like it.

Growing up in Lauderdale, I never saw snow until I went to college .. then I saw too much .. Terre Haute, Indiana - 1 of the worst blizzards on record my first winter there. My little old neighbor lady, knowing I was a Southern Girl made me some snow cream. She took cold milk and added some vanilla and sugar then start mixing clean snow into it until it was the consistency of ice cream.

We apparently lost power here last night .. all my electric clocks are blinking.

It's unbelievable outside! when I took the picture I saw that the fan of my heat pump was totally smothered with 6 inches of snow on it and running! That can't be good. I grabbed my rake and cleared it off.

It's 8:30am and it's still under freezing outside. I'm hoping it warms up enough by 11:30 to make the roads passable! I have an appointment somewhere at noon!

1 Gallon fresh snow
2 cups of milk
1 cup of sugar

And some folks add a bit of vanilla extract - I like it either way.

It is beautiful here !!

Everything is beautiful .. tho it's all starting to melt here - will be a slushy mess in no time. Just got finished sweeping off all the snow on the car. Indiana is coming back to me after doing chores outside. I'm all for having this once a year, but as a steady diet .. no! My neighbors across the street are obviously from the north .. they are pro's at making snowmen and snow forts.

Wow! I'm loving these photos. What I can't believe is that I am in NY. We finally get some snow to make up for the miserable wet, cold winter and I miss it!! LOL. There's plenty of snow on the ground up here, of course, but I love to see it while it's falling and fresh.

We even got a bit down here. It was pretty heavy coming down but we were just too warm for it to stay around.

I know. Everyone was out playing in it.

Thanks for the recipe.

I lived in Montana for 3 years but today's snow was the prettiest I've seen. Our trees here are different and they were sublime.
