Anyone have one? I am giving thought to buying and I'd like input
hatfield transplanter
I've got one. It works great. I use the 1.5 inch version planting through plastic mulch. I put an edge on the end to cut through the plastic. I made a flat holder with a strap where I can use it by myself. If you check my blog the middle of next week I'll have a video of it in action. It's one of the best investments I've made. I can plant a 72 plant flat in about 15 minutes. You'll have to play around with the depth setting, but once you get that right it'll save you beaucoup time, and your back will appreciate it too!
Just watched your video - that makes me want to plant a larger garden just so I could get one of those transplanters! (no bending, or at least a lot less - yes!). Nice website overall, I bookmarked it so I can look at it more when I have a little more time. Love the "rooter tiller," too - and thanks for rasing the hogs without antibiotics, wish more people were on board with that.
Sandy
Thanks Sandy, it is definitely a back saver. I also use a jab planter for large seeds that's also easy on the back. I'm going to be seeding some peas in plastic mulch in a couple of days and you'll be able to see it up on the blog.
I enjoyed your blog so much and highly recommend it to others. Great reading and a fine example of a very productive small farm. I'd like to see many more start ups with your ethics. Thank you.
Thanks twiggy. Is Moss Point near Hattiesburg or Laurel? I buy all my foundation Large Black pigs from Ted Smith in Laurel. I make the trip down about once a year. Mr Smith has the largest and most diversified herd in the U.S.
A small world! I grew up in what was a wilderness called Ellisville which is between Laurel and Hattisburg. My folks had 40 acres with about half pasture for cows. The pigs lived in the woods and were my pets. In the summer, they'd lay up by their favorite mudholes in the shade. I'd scratch their ears and rub their bellies. My Dad was from PA and favored Durocks (sp?). Most of the neighbors favored Poland Chinas. Many great memories. Moss Point is on the Gulf between Biloxi and Mobile with too many people and not enough pigs.
LOL, Twigs! Not a statement I hear too often!!! But I love it!
Tulsa, thanks for the input. The video was great. I think I'm gonna take the plunge and buy one.
Hey Huffy, look at it this way. One trip to the chiropractor will cost a whole lot more than the transplanter! :)
twiggybuds, LOL! I want a couple of hogs as well, but DH won't hear of it. After learning about the turbowire and with ImaTulsaDawgs' kind input he is now up for fencing to keep the cattle out of my garden and area where I will be planting trees. I now have him convinced that we can, indeed, have meat goats and keep them contained. We lease most of our land to a nice young man for grazing his cattle. I've got an area on our property that has been cleared and needs to be "weeded and some brush elimination". I think the goats would fit right in for that area. I'll wear him down about the hogs, maybe by the time we retire =D!
That transplanter looks cool but I think I'll hold off. I'm pretty short and I'm sure they don't make a "petite" model!
