Gentle Dog Suddenly Agressive

This is new for me. This is an elderly German Shepard mix who could get along with anything all of his life. A real sweetie.

Now he's suddenly become aggressive with both his new housemate and his old. Over food it seems at some points, but this is not his nature.

Thoughts? This is not the animal that I know.
