Just had a new candida hybrid bloom-this one was from seed sent to me by another hybridizer. I can say that the flower is yellow-opens up flat and wide with just a tiny bell at the end. Long and thin like some of versicolors at the top-but it has a nice aurea type calyx. Set some pink candida pollen to it from another seedling yesterday, so only time will tell what the seedpod resembles. Looks similar to an aurea picture someone else sent me resently. Ahh, it does have 6 points on half of its flowers and 5 on the other half. Still looking for that elusive 12 point buck...I mean Brug...Sheesh were is my mind....
Candida hybrid
LOL!!! halfway up a brug bloom??? hehehe !
the flower sounds lovely!!!!!
When does brug season open down there?Gotta get my permit!!!LOL
Were you thinking about dinner? please find someone computer literate to send some pics to for posting.
Eric, I would love to post the pictures for you. I have good software if they need resizing and I don't mind at all.
Arlene,
Yes, that hybrid does look like a small flat saucer as flat as it opens up. The flower starts out very thin like many versicolors, but the bell is very small and is about the size of a standard wild aurea. Unfortunately, this flat state of the bell only seems to last for the first night it opens up-after that it never quite opens up all the way again.
Thanks Tig and Arlene, I haven't taken pictures of this one yet though. I do have a shredded candida in bloom right now and a slew of versicolors, some of them my own versicolor hybrids. Unfortunately, I only have 2 or 3 that I like out of my versicolor hybrids and Arlene has one of those. I have one very similar from that same cross though that I like....Boy, do I ramble. The plain truth is, too many of my hybrids came out white this year. Heres hoping that the weather in florida holds out a few more months.
I am thinking if it doesn't go much under 30 a couple of layers of flannel sheets may do the trick.. maybe i will install outside heat lamps...or get out the pvc and rig igloos over those seed pods.
