I have seeds of both types and will probably use both was just wondering which you like better for cooking. Also what are other good types of herbs you like for cooking?
I am trying to learn to use more herbs in my cooking and would love the input
Thanks and God Bless,
Keith.
Which is better Dwarf Greek Basil or Genovese Basil?
Well, as an English gardener I have to nominate mint. A hardy perennial comes in several flavours; but they're all terribly invasive. Here in Scandinavia I guess dill and fennel would be essentials. Parsley of course. Coriander; chives; oregano; sage; thyme.
Yes Keith, plant both types of basil. Experimenting and making up your own mind is part of the delight of gardening.
The greek basil that I've grown was quite peppery... my genovese is also intense but with an anise note... so they are each "best" in different things... combined, they make a great combo for pesto!
French thyme (with tiny narrow leaves) is my favorite cooking thyme, although I grow a bunch of different ones. I'm also a fan on the intense flavor of greek oregano. Rosemary makes a beautiful little shrub as well as being a wonderful cooking herb.
I'm glad you're planning on cooking with the herbs you're growing... the more you pinch them, the better they do!
