Can anyone tell me what's up with this easter cactus? It was outside for the summer, repotted and brought in and now has these thin shoots popping up attached to the main plant Is this new growth? It's not a seperat plant, but I've never seen this type of growth on this plant before. Any help would be much appreciated..
Can anyone tell me what's going on?
you will get new leaves shoots out of those new stems.
This is a cactus orchid and flowers develop at the end of the flat leaves.
I read that the shoots represent weak winter growth and won't develop to the point where they will flower and they should be snipped off at the base. Is that true Bob? Oh, I meant to say orchid cactus, I'm a little dyslectic.
I have checked with other threads and have always observed that other growers say they are natural growth that will develop with your plant's maturing. They certainly provide food and added exposure to your plant. I would not cut them. I'll do more checking with the experts, but I would leave them as is. bob
Yes, I would like to know the correct answer to that question. I too was told that it was weak growth that would never develop & to cut it off, which I did. But later I noticed that it was the only growth on the plant, there were no other new shoots.
Oh, Darn. I cut off a years worth of growth. I had a very bad feeling when it cut it off, but I got that info from the epi forum. Lili, your blooms are beautiful. It looks like the same epi I have. What is it exactly? I know that people call it queen of the night.
They are called several things. I call it Night Blooming Cereus. Mine only opens one night, but there are new hybrid that will stay open all week long. And there are lots of colors. Here is the plant file and you can read all about it on the bottom. It's considered a 'passalong plant'.
