A friend at work gave me dried lavender and Lemon Balm? It smells great!
She steeps it and adds it to her bath.... other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Anna
Uses for Dried Lavender and Lemon Balm
I use it for tea's.and tintcures
Lemon Balm makes a good tea. Lavender is good in potpouries and in clothes drawers and closets.

You can use dried lemon balm, instead of fresh, to make Lemon Balm Cake. Just steep the dried herb in the milk called for in the recipe as though you were making a tea. Then, strain out the dried leaves with a tea strainer before putting the milk in the batter. The rule of thumb when substituting a dried herb for a fresh is one part dried herb=3 parts fresh. But, that is just a general rule. It depends on how old the dried herb is, how it was dried and, even, how it was grown. Personally, I think with lemon balm the ratio is a little closer together. *Kay*
Nice suggestions. Thanks! Do you make sachets for the lavender ?

I have made some with (4 to a side) little cotton squares sown together like a minature quilt. I think you are supposed to use satin. But i've had the cotton from quilts and used them.
Am thinking about doing the same with catnip for my cat.
You could also purchase some organza bags at a craft store and simply put the lavender in those. Very pretty stacked in a bowl or hung on a cabinet knob.
Put some of the lavender (assuming it is organic) in a jar of sugar and let it sit for a few weeks. Strain the sugar through a sieve and you have yummy lavender-flavored sugar.
Lemon balm tea is a very nice cuppa for light anxiety. Lemon balm is also anti-viral.
Both sound wonderful! I knew I would get some great ideas on this forum. Keep them coming!
Herbalbetty, I wonder if keeping the lavender in some Splenda would work as well.

Vickie, you could try it and see. I would think it would work similarly.
Thanks, I'll try it.

Last summer I was able to cut boquets of different types of lavender over several weeks and enjoy them for their beauty as well as in tea and lemonade. The flowers that were left have dried to the point of crumbling when I picked them up, so I'm using them when I vacuum. I sprinkle them on the living room rug, smoosh them with my feet, then vacuum them up. They make the whole LR smell of lavender for awhile, and it's not too long until it will be lavender cutting time again. Yea!
I made a soothing pillow using dried lavender with flaxseeds for the filling. It is rectangular and can be heated/activated in the microwave. I deliberately did not overstuff it so that it will conform to various parts of the body.
Lovely ideas!
I agree. I'm going to try crumbling them in my carpet and vacuuming. Right now my carpet smells like winter. YUK!!!
Great idea about the flax seed pillow with lavender, especially that it can be heated.
I just cleaned up my herb garden, and can't get enough of the smell of lemon balm. Has anyone ever made soap with it? I'd love any ideas of how to do.
I use Lavender in cakes, drinks, ice cream...just about everything! Google Lavender recipes and a bunch of great recipes will come up. My favorite right now is Lavender lemonade.
WOW! I use unscented laundry detergent and wish it would smell better. I wonder if lavender can be added to the dryer?
By all means, just put it in a sachet bag to keep the bits from getting into the laundry. You can also add a few drops of essential oil on a cloth or dryer sheet.
I make my own laundry detergent and add different essential oil right in the liquid. Just be sure not to add anymore than 3-4 drops.
Thanks! It is funny how we get used to those chemical "clean" scents. That unscented laundry almost smelled bad...Thanks for a great solution
